Not true. Neither Calhoun or Sancomb were on the committee.
Correct.
The Atlantic Region Committee members were:
Darryl Brooks head coach of Bowie State (CIAA)
Tim Koenig head coach at Notre Dame (MEC)
Tim McNeely AD at Fairmont State (MEC)
Steve Roach AD at IUP (PSAC)
James Wilhelmi head coach at Winston-Salem State (CIAA)
Jeff Wilson head coach at East Stroudsburg (PSAC)
They did release their final data that they used to rank the teams in the region. I thought West Lib should have gotten the 2 seed and voiced my opinion. I did so based on the fact that they played an all D2 schedule and Shipp did not. However, the data/criteria does show Shippensburg beat out West Liberty in every category but D2 wins. I will say though they ranked Shepherd 7th and Virginia Union 9th, Shepherd had a higher RPI than Virginia Union, much, much higher SOS than Virginia Union but gave the bid to Virginia Union.
The NCAA is all about giving the top seed the easiest route to the final. Don't believe me? Then explain why they re-seed for the Elite 8? The team most capable of beating #1 seed Fairmont was WLU so they did everything possible to get them nocked out before the final. The best way to do that was to have them play the one team, outside of Fairmont, that had a chance of beating them in the first round. To make that happen, they had to make them the #3 seed instead of #2...couldn't risk having Ship nock WJ out in the first round before WJ got a chance to play WLU.

Is this serious or am I not picking up on sarcasm?
No sarcasm....reality. First of all, only losses FSU had was to WLU, and WLU was conference tourney champion. WLU should have really hosted. If you are going to still have FSU host, then WLU has to be the 2 seed based on the MEC being the best overall conference in the region. PSAC plays slow, back to the basket basketball, can't keep up with the MEC teams on the floor. There was no way the dude from Notre Dame and the AD fro FSU was going to allow WLU the 2 seed. The coach from Notre Dame does almost as much whining as Calhoun and Sancomb. If WLU has a representative on the committee they are at the very least the 2 seed if not host. Hose job from the start.
Sorry, but WJU beats Ship 3 out of 4 times. -- Show me any tournament, including the DI going on as of today that doesn't give the top seeds the easiest road to the finals. -- if not, just put all the teams in a big bowl like the World Cup soccer draw to make up the regionals along with determining that way who plays host. -- I am sure, public relations being nice comments aside, neither WJU or WLU wanted to play Round 4 in the first round, but rather have a chance for it to be a Semifinals matchup as it was in the MEC -- next year one of the stressed items is doing all possible to avoid interconference first round matchups, which the seeds could have been fudged to do that this year.

Villanova is the top seed in the tournament and has probably toughest road to the Final Four. Don't believe me? Look at the actual seed list. Nova should be playing the lowest ranked seed number of who they are playing each round (assuming no upsets occur). The true seed list should have the lowest ranked 16, 8, 4, and 2 in Nova's bracket. It didn't work out that way. It did in some cases, but not all.
So there, I did show you a tournament. The D1 tournament, that doesn't give the top seed the easiest road to the finals.
Just to play along ... and because I love a good conspiracy theory ...
Say you flip WL and Ship. WL gets to beat Virginia Union by 50 and WJ beats Ship. Then in Round 2 WJ beats WL. Who cares if you're out on Sunday or Saturday. If you don't win the last game of the season ... nobody cares.
I don't fully understand the politics of the MEC. In football, the whole conference cheers for Shepherd in the playoffs. In basketball, it seems from the WL fans at least nobody is cheering for Fairmont. You guys also insult Wheeling Jesuit at every turn all season but now act as if they are North Carolina. I don't get it?
Or ... forget the seeding conspiracy theories and realize if Brady doesn't get hurt in practice and Monteroso doesn't pull a hammy ... odds are this conversation isn't even happening.
Nobody on this board is on the committee (that we know of, anyway).
Pretty interesting article. Wins and loses are facts. You can't argue wins and losses. Interesting comments from Calhoun. Perhaps strange to hear some over-the-top public comments from a coach. While it's nice for him to be candid and speak his mind ... it's also a bit strange from a head coach. Further evidence he's out the door immediately after this season ends. Also note the Cleveland State fan base can't fathom what is taking so long to name the next coach. Gee, I wonder.
His comments strike me as a little arrogant being this is Fairmont's first real year of success in the post-season in a long, long time. Fairmont and WJ also went out in the first round last year to non-MEC schools. But, this is 'this' year. I get that.
I'm curious if he's been asked about being listed as a candidate for 5-6 different jobs and having allegedly interviewed already for at least one of them (possibly two). I know he'd 'coach speak' that one but I wonder if it was asked. I know in the D1 world that would be a major story but in the D2 world the coaches don't get hit with that type of hard questions. Heck, at IUP the beat writer gets to help cut down the nets.
