I think that Augie & MSU will have even more of a rivalry now that the Vikings have added hockey. Another sport to compete in. I don't foresee them adding women's hockey- at least I haven't heard that they are planning t Lo do so, but even way back in the initial NCC days in the 70s before MSU stupidly dropped football and went back to the NIC with their tail tucked between their legs, there have been a lot of great games between the two schools.

My buddy Randy who went to UND because he wanted to go to a school who beat the Gophers in hockey once told me that I could coach the sport. I laughed and told him that I could barely roller skate. I had coached him in football and baseball and played fast pitch softball with him. He said that there are basics in pretty much all sports and that I already knew those. Nice compliment but I'm sure I'd have gotten fired before the year was over. I'd stick with basketball during the winter, even though there are some people who didn't think that I knew anything about that sport either!
Out of curiosity, Lafer what athletics have you coached or worked camps? Over the years I recall you helping out with high school girls. I have a ton of respect for those who donate their time for the enrichment of youth. Viva Laker!

Back in the early 70's I was struggling with math in elementry school and was tutored by an Augie student. He asked what my interests were and I told him Twins baseball. I sure learned fast when doing baseball statistics. Sure appreciated my baseball youth coaches.as well.

KMS- head baseball, B boys- then head boys BB
Buffalo Lake- head football, head GBB, asst baseball with Stewart and then with Hector.
Nicollet- jr hi FB, head GBB

      Purdue

It was fun to see all those places and meet a lot of new people. Math was my worst subject- Carol Anderson taught me how to determine winning percentages. When you can find a practical application for something you learn it faster.

\Wow, Wow, Wow Brad. That is a commitment to youth even while you were a young pup. I salute you. You did a camp at ISU, I hope it was at Hilton coliseum. I'm a fanboy of the Cyclones. You must be an effective teacher and built many relationships to be asked to participate in so camps and coaching positions.

Bill Fennelly is a GREAT, not just good, guy to work for. I go back to Ames for FB, MBB, WBB, softball games. A real family atmosphere working for him.

Each place had good and bad points. Some camps were run better than others. In some camps the coaches got along better than others. At Wisconsin I was roommates with a coach from Milwaukee- the next year he came up and said he saw my article in Winning Hoops. He said he told his other coaches, "I know this guy!" Some of the campers become coaches themselves after college and so you work with them years later. At Iowa State each team had a player assigned to it- I was lucky one year to have two. One of them had been credited with saving two lives after a couple had a car crash and she got them out. I told her that I couldn't top that!

          • Augie with a new offer out to 6’7” PF Luka Momcilovic out of Wisconsin:

            https://x.com/_lukamomcilovic/status...10042913657042

It would appear Luka is a relative (assuming brother) of the stud from Iowa State, Milan Momcilovic. He’s been garnering a significant amount of D2 interest lately from the looks of things. Should be interesting to see where Luka ends up.

Luka holds offers from UMD, MSU, WSU, AU as well a host of other D2 schools. Fun to pronounce Momcilovic.

Yes, that was extremely sad news to read. Hopefully it is just for this year and Jeff can return to regale us with equal parts useful and mundane information by next fall.

Damn, I've tuned to the Fylling Station play-by-play in favor of the NSIC Streaming more times than I can count.

I hope his replacement is able to tell me that SMSU just tied the game on Andrew Peschong's 5th 3-pointer of the season.

I don't want to live in a world where "Foul, not called" is not a regular part of an Augie broadcast.

                          • Or "he got away with a walk". Jeff is a consummate homer for sure and I like it. Been listening to him since 1989, back when he was still learning his craft. Remember him interviewing a Buffalo Bills scout there for Corbin Lacina at halftime, he pissed the scout off by suggesting that he can't be paid very well.

                            • Looks like Augie gets 1st shot at the severely depleted ‘24-‘25 Bearcats in St Jo. 4 starters from last year and 2 assistant coaches went with Mac to Drake and the 5th starter is playing professional ball in Europe. Could get ugly

NW should probably just disband their athletic department.
