So hypothetical question how would the Graceland team stack up in this region. Also what are the major differences academically between D2 schools and the NAIA.

Well, they beat Augie by single digits this season (arguably one of the worst seasons Augie has had in the last seven or eight years). I thought they looked good at the time, but never would have expected they would win the national championship. Sounds like their coach is pretty good for being a bit of a younger up-and-comer.

D2 uses a sliding scale to determine eligibility. Combo of ACT and GPA.

NAIA uses three criteria. GPA, ACT, and class rank I think. They have to meet two out of the three to be eligible.

Also somewhat locally, Nebraska Wesleyan won the Division III national championship last week.

          Against WI-Oshkosh, correct?

Good mid-level basketball in the Midwest.

One thing to note- Graceland was the NAIA D1 champs. In NAIA D2 Indiana Wesleyan beat St. Francis of Indiana to win their third title in five years at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls. It seems like they have basketball 24/7 there.

What are the differences between D1 and D2 NAIA. Is it kind of like NCAA D2 and D3?

Wandering the criteria for a site to land tournaments. The Sioux Falls sports authority has got it going on landing so many tourneys.

Great question- I looked at the NAIA site and Wikipedia and didn't find an explanation. I think what you came up with might be fairly close- having to do with the number of scholarships.

Had no idea NWU was D3 and in the Iowa athletic conference. In their 2nd year as a D3 institution won the NC. Their coach Dale Wellman won national coach of the year.

D1 NAIA can give more than NCAA D2 then. So why are they considered weaker? Or maybe why are they weaker?

I'm not sure the top tier are necessarily weaker then D2, I think they would compete just fine. I think in general they probably don't get as good a players just given NAIA isn't viewed as prestigious as the NCAA. A little known fact, the Iowa Conference was all NAIA until sometime around mid 70's when they switched to NCAA D3. There was a drop in talent as they no longer could give scholarships. Also in NAIA I don't think you have the clearing house like we do in D2 - so there would be some kids that are very talented that go that route vs. D2 just because they can get in and play right away.
