Re: 2018-19 Washburn Thread--All things Ichabod basketball

Jakob is giving his all to his team this year. He's stoic while on the court that's for sure. He is a great young man off the court too. UCM just needs to stop spotting every team 10 points to start every game. I think despite our record, we are making opposing teams better offensively, defensively the team gets stop after stop. The only game that I was upset with the team's effort was the game in Topeka.

Big win for the Ichabods over SW Baptist in Bolivar today. Javion Blake was incredible with 30 pts on 11 of 17 from the field. SWB fought back after being down by 13 at half but the Bods responded ending the game on a 16 to 6 run to end the game. 6 big games left before the MIAA tourney.

Nice team win for the Ichabods over NSU on Thursday night in Topeka. The Ichabods were 11 out of 13 from 3pt. land in the first half and ended up 17 out of 27 from beyond the arc for the game. It was a very balanced attack as the Bods had seven players score between 6 and 16 and no one took more than 8 shots. Great ball movement and very unselfish play as they had 23 assists on 32 made buckets. UCO at home on Saturday before we hit the road for our last road trip of the year.

The Ichabods had a convincing win over UCO on Sat in Topeka. Only up 3 at half the Bods pulled away in the 2nd half to win by 19 and ended up shooting 56% from the field for the game. Blake led 4 Ichabods in double figures with 20. On to Lindenwood and Lincoln for a tough road trip in week 9 of the conf season. Washburn is playing well winning their 5th in a row but they will need to play well on this road swing to hold on to 2nd in the conf.

Great win for the Ichabods over Lindenwood 81-60. Blake, Geiman and Salach led the Bods with 24, 15 and 12. Geiman also chipped in 10 rebounds and 7 assists. The Ichabods are clicking and playing great ball. On to Lincoln. I expect that one to be tough.

Hard fought win for the Ichabods over Lincoln 75-70. The Bods only shot 40% from the field but they found a way to survive. Wilson came off the bench to lead Washburn with 18pts. Salach and Geiman with 13 a piece and Geiman added 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Leading scorer Javion Blake was held to 8pts on 2 of 13 shooting. Back home for a tilt with NWMS on Thursday night. Should be fun

That last minute of basketball by Lincoln was some of the worst I've seen this year. I have no problem with Washburn getting credit for it. Just saying, Lincoln has to get something better than a few contested threes with plenty of time left on the shot clock when trailing by 3 or less.

I agree. Very undisciplined. They are very athletic and are kind of scarey when they get it rolling but they have not been able to finish. That team should not be on a 5 game losing streak. Way too much talent.

The Ichabods secured the 2nd seed in the MIAA tourney with a hard fought win over MO West. Hats off to the Griffons. They lost to #1 and #2 in the conf in the last week of the season by a combined 5 pts with both games on the road. There was a lot of fight in them. Credit Coach Wicks on a team that never quit. Very impressed. The Ichabods rode Blake as he was terrific with 34 pts. Washburn got great contributions from Witt and Senior Ogbonna with 15 and 11 pts. It was Ogbonnas first start of the year and he was big time. The Bods got a near triple double from Geiman with 12 pts, 9 assists and 8 rebounds as well. On to KC. Should be a great tourney.

The Ichabods played their worst half of the year and went in tied at half with SW Baptist 26 to 26. They responded with 51 2nd half points to win going away by 19. Jalen Lewis and Will McKee led the Bods with 14 a piece and near triple double machine Tyler Geiman contributed 10 pts, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. The Bods await the winner of MO Southern and Pitt State. Should be an entertaining Sat afternoon

Congrats to the Bods. Now if southern takes care of business your game will be entertaining.

Just got back from Maryville. Tough loss but proud of the Ichabods for coming back from 20 down to have a chance at the end. Tough to overcome 22 threes. Southern was clicking offensively and they have multiple weapons. Big Cam was really good today. We will miss our Seniors but we have some good pieces coming back. Good luck to all of you that are left in the region. I am rooting for the MIAA.

Two of Washburn's 2019 recruits and both in coming Freshman for the 2019-20 had good showings at the Kansas City area HS all-star game between the Missouri All-Stars and the Kansas All-Stars. 6'3" swing man Tyler Nelson from Rockhurst scored 13pts for the Missouri squad and finished 2nd in the dunk contest and 6'2" guard Amhad Louis from Oak Park chipped in 11pts for the Missouri squad. In addition to those two, Washburn has inked 6'3" silky smooth left-hander Conner Deffebaugh from Bentonville HS in Arkansas and sharp-shooting 6'4" 2 guard Levi Braun from Topeka Hayden HS. The Ichabods have a nice class coming in behind their class from last year of Jalen Lewis, Sevon Witt, Jonny Clausing and Isaiah Thorne. I think they still have a couple to give. Maybe a couple of transfers. The Bods will be young but they are getting some talented kids. Looking forward to next year!
