Re: NSIC Scores and Standings (12/3)

I'll stick with my typical lazy approach and just ask the question without doing the research:

When's the last time Wayne just straight up blew out a conference opponent like they did against Concordia on Saturday? Besides Crookston, I mean (if there even has been a Crookston blow-out in recent years).

I'm glad to see that Wayne might actually be getting things figured out down there. As I mentioned after their close game against us, it would be great to have a solid travel partner again to keep teams like Moorhead/Northern from resting their starters the last 5-10 minutes of the Friday night game.

They beat Sioux Falls by 23 two seasons ago. That was their last 20-point NSIC win.

Quick Player of the Week predictions... (For the record, Augieholic, I miss your POTW prediction breakdowns.)

The only two South Division teams that won both nights were Augie and Upper Iowa, and nobody from Upper Iowa put up any sort of eye-popping stats for both nights. I could see either Augie's Adam Beyer or Jordan Spencer coming away with it.

Beyer had a career high 24 points on Friday with 4 boards, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 steal and he put up 22 points on Saturday night with 6 boards, an assist and a steal. His shooting percentages both nights were very solid too.

Jordan Spencer went for 14 points, 12 assists, 4 boards and a steal Friday night and 20 points, 8 assists, 2 boards and 2 steals Saturday night.

For the North, Gage Davis of St. Cloud should be a lock. Friday night: 27 points, 12 boards, 8 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. Saturday night: 27 points, 18 (no typo) boards, 2 assists and 1 steal. That's impressive, even if it was against Bemidji and Crookston.

The Augustana kids are strong possibilities, but I'll throw Drew Guebert's name in the mix after averaging 21.5 ppg.

It has been awhile. Things are trending up in Wayne. It won't be a great team, but it looks like this will be a team that can compete on a nightly basis. Overall team defense is so much better than last year. Turnovers are down. Ball movement is better. The Concordia blowout looks nice, but Concordia is going to lose a lot of games this year. More impressive was the very close Friday night game vs Mankato. There isn't a senior on the roster, so Wayne can build from here.

I could've seen that if they were trying to spread the wealth a little bit, but Beyer's numbers beat out Guebert's in every category (including shooting 73.9% from the field and hitting 5-of-6 3-pointers and 7-of-8 from the free throw line over the weekend). And, as noted, the Vikes won 2 out of 2, one of which was against the preseason conference favorite.

That being said, I'll be fairly surprised if Guebert hasn't won his fair share of South Player of the Week awards by the end of the season.

Looks like the official word is that Beyer is South PotW and Davis is North PotW.
