Not saying he should or will but it would be a forward move in his career depending on what he is looking for.
I think that would be an attractive job for all the reasons you state. It wouldn't be a rebuild either with very recent success. They've had players get drafted, they've made the NCAA tournament. Call Boshee! He can sweeten the deal and bring Martin with him.

UMKC was laughable. SD State is the type of job that I think would be very appealing to Ben. Successful program, close to family, ability to win right away. Now the question is whether they would be interested in him.

Based on the way their fanbase esteems itself, I would be surprised, if not outright shocked, if the Jackrabbits go the D2-to-D1 route on a coach. Even one with a track record as strong as McCollum's. It probably helps that he's a younger coach who has shown consistent success, so that part might be appealing, but it would still really surprise me. The SDSU fans and administration seem to think of themselves as some sort of Northern Iowa-level mid-major (at least Northern Iowa from a few years ago, not the past couple of seasons) rather than a Summit League-level low-/mid-major.

Yes, that is a great article about Ben. Northwest really struck gold with three coaches over that past few years. Ben on the basketball side and Mel & Adam on the football side. Northwest should move up and give the rest of us a chance.

As the article states and I've mentioned, that's the type of program that I think would appeal to Mac but the program has to be interested in him. That's the rub... Either that situation will come up at some point or Mac will have to lower his expectations for the program he will go to before there is a move to D1 for him. He's not going to a school just because it's D1. If he goes another few years and that situation never arises then I think he would be perfectly happy at NW for a long time.

What's left for Ben to accomplish at Northwest? Ben will feel the same tug to move up that Adam experienced. A new and bigger challenge plus more money for his family. He's gone.

It's kind of a lesson in patience too. We all know the Mel story... first year was 0-16, but went on to build one of the best programs in all of college football. There were plenty of people that weren't sold on AD after the Bearcats finished 2nd in the conference standings in his first two seasons at the helm after inheriting a team that hadn't lost a conference game in 5 years. Of course he went on to win 3 out of 4 National titles after that. (People are probably a little too panicky about Rich and his staff at times, but we'll see.) Ben's first two years were not very impressive either, but since, he's just been crazy good.

I don't know how to make this any more clear. If Ben is looking for an offer from a SD State, MO ST, Northern Iowa, etc but they aren't interested in him then something has to give for him to make that move. Either those schools have to be open to a D2 coach or he has to lower the expectations of what type of program he would make the move for. If neither of those change then he may be at NW for awhile. If he lowers his expectations then he is as good as gone.
