This is hard to say, but this version of the Mavs is actually good at defense (except against Cam Martin...). Shocking for many I'm sure, me included.
The first 15 minutes of the first half were amazing. I was actually impressed at the defensive end, which led to good flow on the offensive side. Then the Warriors cut the lead down to five at half and we had a ball game again. Something must have been said in the locker room at halftime to get the Mavs going again.

moorhead loses close one with Mary at home. Mary built to scrap, defend and muck up games it appears. Moorhead playing perimeter game. Mary switching a lot making Moorhead offensive flow very disjointed. May need to look to play a little more inside out. Park, Baumgartner and Beeninga showed up on offense...Moorhead struggled to find others to contribute on offense. Did see some improvements on defense although Mary not most polished offense in conference by any means. Give Mary credit for making their fts down the stretch. Need to get the backend of home stand tomorrow against minot.

A very good effort by the Mavs overall, with Krieger not able to play at all. Hoping they can continue that tonight, and Krieger can return to action in January.

Absolutely. Good to get a W without a top scorer in the lineup.

Speaking of missing a player, Gathje didn't play for Winona. Could his absence last night be the reason (injury) he wasn't on the floor for the final seconds against Wayne last weekend?

I thought that Matt mentioned that he had broken his nose in the postgame radio show.

Special shout out to Dewey Marble who I visited with last night at the game. Dewey has been working the chain gang at MSU for a long time. There are so many workers around college sports who do it for the love of the game and certainly not money. People who run the scoreboard, keep stats, the ushers etc. Without them we wouldn't be able to have these contests. Thanks to them!

Must have been a pretty physical postgame radio show.

They were bringing in bleachers for graduation today. Accidents do happen. Or maybe Casey Lloyd got animated over a political statement.

I will miss that Augie sense of humor three years from now when you guys are gone. There should really be a "Best of Augie Humor" thread compiled before you leave. Augieholic's Where's Waldo outfit, Faithful's gentile gibe's, and long manifestos of Mr Mr. All the pleasant memories that we have to be thankful for!

No antics at all from Bruggeman last night, it was amazing. Only antics of the evening came from Steve McNease as he spent more time talking to the crowd(and it wasn't even me, he was engaged with a group of young, college freshmen or so, black men who had gotten his attention) than he did boxing out. Numerous SCSU rebound right over him. Matt said on the post-game that it wasn't anything special they did, they had actually decided to let him get what he was going to, just don't let the others beat them. It worked. I think one thing that may have helped was all the blocks, SCSU had 8 last night. It seemed like he had some chances on drives but he was kicking a lot of them out
Now its on to the Coo and Drew Geubert. I hope his mom shows up.(lowercase d)

Got my first taste of Scorch's flock and I agree with your comments regarding Park (when did he start taking and making 3s?), Beeninga, and Baumgartner. The rest of the freshmen were just sort of there, which freshmen have been known to do. Mary isnt the most talented team but they hit a ton of 3s last night which is the equalizer.

I dont want to sound rash because it's still early, but the more success Wieck has and the more losses like this Moorhead has, the more it becomes clear how important Justin was to the Dragons success.

Just a cool 37 for Matt Cartwright tonight. Augie was down 13 to Crookston early in the second half, and the Augie coaches started running a play called "Give the ball to Cartwright and tell him to shoot it every time." It was an extremely effective play throughout the second half. I'm sure Augieholic will have deeper (or at least more entertaining) analysis.

Very impressed with the young manwho announces the Concordia games. Looks young enough to be a student. If so, he is very professional for his current station in life.
