  • MSHAA vs NCAA

This Saturday MSHAA is hosting the 5A boys and girls Qtr Finals at Silverstein Arena in Independence Mo 90 minutes from Maryville. There will easily be more fans there than the first session of the Central Regional would’ve had. Why is it safe for those games but not for the Central Regional games? The final 4 for the lower classes in Springfield Mo is still being held. Does Covid 19 avoid MSHAA games but not NCAA games? I think politics is involved in the NCAA’s decision more than science.

Nebraska High School Activities Association is proceeding with State BB tournament but w/o fans, immediate families only.

Minnesota HS girls tourney is still allowing fans. Not sure what will happen with the boys next week.

A high school student who attended last week's girls tourney has tested positive for Covid 19. 10 confirmed cases in Nebraska, mostly in Omaha. Caution is justified. Omaha is NCAA D-1 tourney site. Stay safe out there, especially the old ones among us!

The NCAA makes most of their money from TV rights. As long as the games are televised, they still get most of their money. MSHSAA makes their money from butts in the stands. MSHSAA cares more about money than anything else.

Now looks like MSHSAA final 4 is limiting fans to immediate family and no 3rd place games

KSHSAA (Kansas) is having their state tourneys with fans. They too are money hungry. That is why we have so many classes and all are held at separate venues. Big time money grab.

Who has the deeper pockets? The NCAA of state high school athletic associations. To me this was smart by the NCAA to limit their liability for those attending.

My Oncologist told me he’s no more concerned about this than the annual flu and he said people are overreacting

Now that all of the pro leagues and the NCAA has cancelled everything, MSHSAA needs to do the same. If they don't, it's just further proof that they don't care about the health and safety of the kids. They only care about $$$$$$$.

Totally agree with Wizard. I know KSHSAA doesn’t care about the kids. They can let the kids play o er 20 games a year cuz it’s not their gate but they keep their state tourneys going. Complete hypocrites. I see MSHSAA is the same. Unbelievable.

It wasn’t me, but another with the Lions’ avatar.

Wouldn’t disagree with the comments though. However, there may be a different feeling about the level of risk involved with a couple of communities from basically the same area of the country coming together for a game versus so many coming from a variety of areas to a bigger event. Let’s face it, so far these communities in Missouri aren’t necessarily canceling church services or telling employees from their large companies to stay home. We continue to traverse the state from corner to corner - the highways are busy.

                          At least for now.....

While I agree they ought to cancel, how can you say anything amount money? The press release said that they were issuing 150 wristbands for people to attend. Unless they are charging an exorbitant amount for those wristbands, IMO it is not about the money. IMO it was about giving those kids a final chance to play in front of their families. Know a basketball ref and they were suppose to do the third place game in Springfield. Was called today and told the third place games would not be held and to not go to Springfield.

Spoke with a coach of a 5A school and there is talk that spring sports will be cancelled.
