    Re: MIAA Week 9 Chat

    For the MIAA, this week is sort of like Saturdays in the PGA. A time to position yourself heading into Sunday, i.e. the final week of play. For most teams, a 2-0 week would be huge in terms of getting higher seeds or getting in at all. An 0-2 week could mean staying home, or maybe barely eeking in to seeds 7-10 who play on the first day and then meet Northwest or someone almost as good as them on day 2. With this year's new format, you haven't even made it to Friday yet.

    Seed 6 or better has some benefit to it. Beyond that, seed 7 or 10 would be the next best, followed by 8 or 9.

    11-13, season over.

    14, you get to take over #deadlast

      ESU has won two in a row and four out of six;
      LWU has won two in a row but had lost five in a row before that;
      UCM won their last game but is 2-4 over the last six;
      SBU is 2-4 in their last six;
      NSU has lost four in a row and is 2-4 over their last six but the two wins were part of a six game winning streak;
      MWSU is 2-4 in their last six;
      PSU has lost six in a row.
      I used the last six games to cover the last three weekends of action.
      Thanks, I hadn't dug too deep into the tiebreakers - Missouri Western holds the H2H tiebreakers over NSU and Pitt, loses the tiebreaker to ESU, split with Lwood and has games with UCM and SBU pending.

      Also, if it comes down to it, none of them have beaten Northwest (obviously) or Washburn. Lindenwood was 1-0 vs Southern and also has a win over Hays. Northeastern was 1-1 vs. Southern and also has a win over Lincoln. UCM has wins over Lincoln and Hays. Unless I've missed something, those are the only wins by this group against the top 5.

        Agreed.

        Not that anyone would ever throw a game, but if you are in a position of win and you're 9th, lose and you're still guaranteed 10th....

        You probably aren't getting and at large bid to the NCAA in either position, but you would guarantee that you couldn't meet NWMSU until Sunday.

          Gotta have something other than "Will NWMSU go undefeated?" to keep things going around here.

            Week kicks off with the Lions hitting for the cycle. That's four for four as the Lindenwood Lions men's and women's team swept Lincoln, and the Missouri Southern Lions men's and women's teams swept Pitt State.

            Pitt's dynamic duo of Lazoya and Franklin went for 20 and 19. The league's leading scorers were outdone by Reggie Tharp (23), Kinzer Lambert (22) and Cam Martin (21). Double figure rebounds for the Lions were Lambert (13), Elyjah Clark (11), and Martin (10). Clark and Tharp had six assists each.

              I knew the Pitt Men would lose that one. Southern is just better this year.

              The women's score really surprised me, though. Nice upset for them.

                The Pitt player who got a T at the end of the game in Pitt is a sore loser and all around cancer. It was hilarious listening to the people who attend a lot of games sitting around me. The guy is definitely not a crowd favorite.

                Also a shout out to the Southern Women's coach for yelling a profanity at the refs loud enough for the whole place to hear.

                  I have only been to a handful of games in the last 5 years.

                  The new men's coach does have them headed in the right direction. A few years ago, 90% of the crowd would leave after the women played. This year, it looked like only 20 percent or so are leaving.

                    I will give kudos to the MIAA for figuring out a schedule that does permit Pitt and Southern to play home and home games each year. The big crowds at each of the past two games made this even more enjoyable.

                    Somebody said that was Southern's 7th straight win over the Pitt men. If true, that's a good run for a college basketball rivalry.

                          Updating the chase for KC. Six teams now have 10 losses, and Pitt State 9.

                          Games remaining for those teams:
                          6. Pitt State 8-9 - Important win over Emporia State keeps them ahead of the cluster. After last night, the UNK game may be tougher than expected.
                          @ UNK
                          @ Fort Hays

                          7. Lindenwood 7-10 - Big win over Lincoln Tuesday night. Two home games left against teams that are a half-game behind.
                          vs. UCM
                          vs. SBU

                          T8. UCM 6-10 - Took the expected L vs. Northwest. Big games against MW and LW upcoming. After spoiling Missouri Western's Senior Day with a buzzer beater, they host the Griffons for their own Senior Day.
                          vs. MWSU
                          @ Lindenwood
                          @ Lincoln

                          T8. Northeastern State 6-10 - Probably had the easiest path coming in to the week, but a tough loss at home to UNK takes away some breathing room.
                          vs. FHSU
                          @ UCO
                          vs. Emporia State

                          T8. Southwest Baptist 6-10 - Important loss to MWSU last night. Two more likely losses on the schedule means the last game at Lwood will be big.
                          vs. Northwest
                          @ Lincoln
                          @ Lindenwood

                          T8. Emporia State 6-10 - Loss to Pitt was big, but with games in Oklahoma next week there is still a feasible path.
                          vs. MSSU
                          @ NSU
                          @ UCO

                          T8. MWSU 6-10 - step one complete: the win over SBU keeps them alive. Still a tough road, with three road games against teams that beat the Griffs on their home floor, and without a lot of tiebreakers over the others. But they have proven to be pretty tough on the road,
                          @ UCM
                          @ NWMSU
                          @ Washburn

                          13. UNK 5-11 - figured after last night's win at NSU I better add them to the list. Road game at the last place team Saturday could make their final two home games interesting.
                          @ UCO
                          vs. Pitt State
                          vs. Southern

                              I am anxious to see us play Emporia tomorrow. It has been two weeks since we played anyone besides Pittsburg State. How will we match up against somebody besides the Gorillas? Lol
