  • MIAA/GAC Game Thread - 1/26/17

Since I'm sure some of you guys up north might be curious as to what's happening in the MIAA and the GAC tonight in terms of who might be regional watching, here are a few of the "important" scores to pass along.

    Women
    MIAA

    Central Oklahoma 78
    Pittsburg State 74
    - With the win, UCO moves into a tie for first place in the MIAA at 9-1 and 18-1 overall (17-1 D2). Don't look now, but could we possibly see UCO host the women's regional? Meanwhile, PSU drops to 9-2 in conference play and 17-3 overall (16-3 D2)

    Lincoln 68
    Fort Hays State 81
    - FHSU trying to keep their chances of making the regional alive. FHSU improves to 6-4 in MIAA play, 15-4 overall, and 10-4 in D2.

    GAC
    Harding 79
    Southwestern Oklahoma 80
    - Harding dropped their first conference game of the season, falling to 11-1 in GAC play, 14-3 overall, and 13-3 in D2.

    Arkansas Tech 77
    Northwestern Oklahoma 57
    - With a win and a HU loss, ATU now climbs to a game out of first place. Tech improves to 10-2 in GAC play, 14-2 overall, and 14-2 in D2.

I'll update the men when those games are over.

    Men
    MIAA

    Lindenwood 71
    Nebraska-Kearney 75
    - With the win, Kearney moves to 13-6 and 11-5 in D2

    Southwest Baptist 63
    - WU moves to 14-5 overall and 12-4 in D2.

    GAC
    Arkansas-Monticello 98
    East Central 100
    - I guess you'd call this a pretty big upset all things considered. UAM has now dropped two straight after starting out 14-0. UAM falls to 14-2 overall and 11-2 in D2. East Central moves to 12-5 overall with all their games being against D2 opponents

    Arkansas Tech 98
    Northwestern Oklahoma 85
    - ATU moves to 12-4 overall and 10-4 in D2.

Good news for Northwest Missouri. Solidifies position as 1 seed for regional.

I just looked up the NWMSU schedule. Haven't been in a single-digit contest since the MIAA opener. Only one game decided by four points or fewer.

3 game road trip for Northwest starting today no gimmie. I expect us to take care of business but MW always gives us a battle in St. Joseph and Lincoln will be a test in Jefferson City. Lindenwood not as good as last year but still tough.

Don't worry, we give the Bearcats permission to lose a few. Better to have the regional in Marshall, anyways!

Not today. NW takes care of business in St. Joe downing the Griffons 74-58 moving to 19-0 on the season.

NW was only up 47-46 with about 15 minutes left in the game but put the game away with a 14-0 run. JP even got to rest for the last 2-3 minutes after 11 assists and 13 pts. Zach S. was 7-11 from 3 pt range and finished with 23 pts.

I don't see anyone beating Northwest in the MIAA. CentralMO just finished 4-0 against the stretch that Northwest is starting (@ Lincoln & Lindenwood, hosting Emporia & Washburn). Northwest is clearly better than the Mules. Can Northwest be the first team since Hays in 1996 to run the table?

Bearcats were up 14 with about 3 left, Lincoln kept throwing in 3s at the end. NW calmly knocked down almost all of their free throws. Virdure had 50, he is a hell of a player. 20-0 feels preeetty good.

NW can clinch tie for MIAA championship with win Saturday against Washburn. Also clinch #1 seed in MIAA tournament since have H2H over UCO and UCM.

NW can clinch the outright title w/ a win over Washburn AND a loss by UCO to UNK or Fort Hays AND a loss by UCM to Missouri Southern.

Up 4 with 5 to play, NW has pretty much sewed up the MIAA championship.
