It's a shame that players are transferring several times over their college careers. I would allow one transfer then make the player sit out for a year between transfers. D1 has money and takes the better players from other divisions. One team in the MIAA had 3 players who had been to over 10 schools between them and still were terrible UCM just had 3 of their top players enter the portal after making the playoffs for the first time in several years. It's hard to build a fan base and loyalty when the team is different every year. (Thanks for allowing this rant)

Not a rant. And I absolutely agree.

There are currently over 750 names in the D2 men's basketball portal. One team (at last count) had TWELVE players in the portal. That is just ridiculous!

There is a few things I would do:
    • You get four years of eligibility in a six year window starting when you first enroll in ANY post secondary institution (that is generous). Red shirt or not.
    • You get one transfer without setting out a year. If you use a second transfer you must set out a year and that counts towards a year noted above.
    • IF a coach leaves you will be allowed to transfer without sitting out a year.
I think for fans of D2 athletics, it is being ruined as any good players just get sucked up by the 300+ D1 schools that have more money. That leaves D2 with little to pick from except NAIA, Juco, and D3.

Central Washington University lost three starters last year and will lose two starters and a reserve this year. That's hard to replace year in and year out.

Most D2 schools are losing two or three starters a year to graduation and/or the portal. It is like a free for all now. Just think of all the extra work coaches have to spend now in the spring just building a team versus focusing on recruiting high school kids.

I recall folks saying this new era of NIL money and effectively unlimited transfers was going to be GREAT for college basketball. While that may be true for some players who can effectively set themselves up for life on NIL $s, for the VAST majority of players and certainly most fans, the hype far exceeded the reality. What we've created is effectively a baseball model where we have "The Show" (the NBA), the D-league (AAA), Power 5 Conferences (AA), mid majors (A), DII (Independent Leagues) and D3 (American Legion Ball). With every player at A ball and below on one year contracts.

Over 900 D2 players in the portal now. Some have now started to land new homes. And while the D1 portal hasn't even opened yet, D1 schools are plucking up D2 players. Amazing how that happens. I am sure no tampering at all before some declared. LOL
