  • CWU Upsets Idaho!

CWU's newcomers made an instant impact tonight to lead CWU to an 88-81 upset of Idaho, who claims to be a D1 team still. Davon Bolton scored 20 on 6/8 3-point shooting while Idaho transfer Xavier Smith returned to Moscow to drop 16 points. CWU shot 12/22 from long range. Zellie Hudson, Malcolm Cola, and Kevin Baker didn't play. So the Wildcats will be pretty good when they get added to the mix.

Nice win, Idaho also lost to NNU last year, program is in a free fall and they fired a pretty good coach last year and hired one of his marginal assistants. Nevertheless, nice win for CWU and it appears they have much more talent and depth this year. Great shooting overall and from the 3-point line. Great win for CWU and the GNAC.

Bolton and Smith are two outstanding additions for the Wildcats. Bolton put up big numbers in JC ball two years running, looks like he's transitioning well to D2. Smith was at Oregon State and Idaho, should've played more at Idaho (IMO), making a dynamic backcourt that will be tough to defend.

LCSC (NAIA) just beat Idaho by a worse score than CWU did ... not sure beating the Vandals this year is a big thing. They'll be lucky to win a Big Sky game this year.

While not a Big Sky game, don't they play Eagle HS? I think they have a chance there.....

They would beat Eagle because Idaho prep basketball is so awful ... don't like their chances against Rainier Beach or Jefferson High in Portland, however.

Last year Idaho had ONE player, ONE, get a D-1 scholarship in hoops, Magnuson to that national power Eastern Washington. One of the worst states in America for high school hoops.

There have been some good kids from Boise, but the last few years have been horrible.

Wyoming is the worst state for HS hoops. By far.

Forty-three is a lot of kids for Idaho, but overall that list is full of bench warmer and role players. The best guy out of here in years Isaiah Wright, was a role player at Utah, transferred to San Diego, where I think he was their leading scorer. When I covered sports in Portland, all 5 guys off Jefferson's state title team got D-1 scholarships, two to Kansas, one to USC, one to UTEP, and Idaho (when they were decent). In Seattle, prep hoops is just loaded, UW does well when they sign and coach them right (Romar had 3 first rounders on his team and was getting 11th in the league). So yeah, Idaho has had better years in hoops, but overall when I watch it, it looks slow and earth bound.
