MC had 10 games lined up for 2025, and 9 games for 2026, which means they had nearly full schedules lined up for the next 2 years. The GSC football future schedules has already been updated to reflect their departure, so I guess they gave the conference at least a little advance notice, but this seems completely out of left field

I doubt the suit goes anywhere, but with who knows. CHL players can join the NCAA now, so maybe that will change too.

From the sounds of it, ETAMU was planning for this change to take effect as early as mid-summer, so it's not overly surprising.
I was only joking, hence the LOL at the end of my post.

For additional context, the only remaining D2 schools which compete in ice hockey at D1 are the five NSIC schools (Augustana, Bemidji, Minnesota-Duluth, Mankato and St Cloud), four GLIAC schools (Ferris, Lake Superior, Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan) and the two Alaska schools (Anchorage and Fairbanks). You also have six D3 programs who were grandfathered into D1 hockey (five in New York State plus Colorado College). The two Alaska schools were on the fence about continuing their programs, although there are rumors (or should I say "rumours") that Simon Fraser might start competing at the D1 level in the near future.

Should AIC follow through with their plans to drop ice hockey to D2, that gives the NE-10 seven ice hockey programs at the D2 level (and if Bentley drops to D2 eventually, that number increases to eight).
Given that the NE-10's hockey program is outside of NCAA governance, could those DIII's drop "down" too? Or even DIs?

Hockey is becoming quite competitive and with CHL alums now eligible to play, I kinda wonder how some of the smaller programs will faire.

I always thought hockey needed to be governed separately from the bigger sports given it's regionality.

Montevallo men's and women's swimming & diving is joining the CC immediately. This leaves the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference with just 3m/4w. They have never really had a full conference. Being an individual sport, it doesn't affect postseason selections with less than 6 teams in a conference but it would be beneficial if the SAC was to absorb the NSISC. Makes a better atmosphere at the conference meet with more teams. Emory & Henry is dropping the sport after this season so the SAC will be at 5 teams. NSISC members are Delta State, Henderson State, Ouachita Baptist, and West Florida (women only).

I'm familiar with William Koenig the writer, but not with former Dartmouth QB Bill Koenig. I was in second grade in 1967 and I had a Batman lunch box. LOL
