In the event Cal beats Sru and there is a 3 way tie for the west....the tie breaker that will kick out Cal is the crossover record (loss to Kutz).

The west participant in the state game is SRU even if they lose to Cal. Assuming they don't lose to Gannon or Clarion.

There are some cons to playing in the State Game. Look at WCU last year. They won the State Game and got bounced the next week in Round 1. Talk about a quick buzz kill.

Would they have done better in the real playoffs had they played Seton Hill (or some lower team) as opposed to playing a tough State Game opponent? Hard to say. Did they have a State Game hangover? Maybe.

Take Kutztown this year. They can either play SRU in the State Game or play a can't-get-the-season-over-with-fast-enough Edinboro that week.

Conference titles are great, but the Region title and beyond is the ultimate goal.

Last year, in both football and men's basketball, the team who won the PSAC Title saw another PSAC team go further in the actual playoffs.

The State Game can have some cons.

3.1 TOURNAMENT FORMAT

3.1.1 Date: The Eastern and Western Division champions will compete during week 11, alternating sites between divisions (West in even years and East in odd years) to determine the PSAC champion.
3.1.2 Champions in each division will be determined by won-loss record within the division.
3.1.3 In the event of a tie between two or more teams for the division lead, the following procedure will be utilized. In the process of breaking the tie among multiple teams, if one team is eliminated from the tie, then the tiebreaking process will restart from the first step.
a. Head-to-Head Results among tied teams.
b. Record against teams in the division not involved in the tie starting at the top of the standings.
c. Overall record in mandated conference games (divisional & crossovers included)
d. Coin toss.

In 2009, Mansfield softball qualified for the PSAC playoffs over IUP via a coin toss. It's a little different when 3 teams from 3 divisions qualify instead of just 1 from 2 divisions, but it has come down to that.

I was thinking that too but as of now Kutztown is probably a favorite over West Chester. Assuming Kutztown takes care of SHipp this week. West Chester v Kutztown has big implications for Shepherd and Edinboro (for the last week opponent Kutz or Bloom...big difference)
