Didn't make it to the spring game, but one thing is apparent: It appears Mac has settled on a feature back.

I didn't even know he had popped up on campus, but former East Pennsboro all-stater Onasis Neely is in town. He saw spot action for two seasons at Temple. Yesterday, he had two touchdowns in the scrimmage.

Nasai Moon and ex-Cal RB Richie Sykes are in camp, but I don't think they'll push Neely. Khalid Dorsey and Billy Williams are gone.

Like I said, I didn't see it. But the SID story said that Joey McCracken impressed the most of the QBs. They still have three others who have gotten looks: Sam Johnson III, who began 2022 as the starter; Evan Falco, who ended 2022 as the starter; and Ryan Orr, a Clarion transfer who saw a few snaps in between.

Yeah, I was interested in seeing that Neely had popped up. I remember him as the big deal at East Pennsboro a couple of years back. Given the state of the RB room, I'm sure Mac was able to offer him plenty of carries this season. Here's hoping the young o-line we had last year improves enough to give him some holes to run through. The QB situation will be interesting. I suspect someone will grab the reins this season, and a couple will transfer at the end of the year — provided, of course, that they don't all get injured again.

The QB situation is strange. Johnson showed a skill set that made BC's recruitment understandable. He can throw the air out of the football. But he was largely ineffective, and I thought he could have avoided the pass rush much better when I saw him. Falco had some nice moments down the stretch, but I don't know if he's the guy you ride back into title contention. McCracken ... I just haven't seen enough of him to get a good read.

They will miss Ian Sheehan at wideout, and I suspect he'll find FCS success at Duquesne. But Mac had a whole boatload of underclass receivers begin to complement Redd Douglas nicely in the final 2-3 games last year -- Rufe, Tedesco, Roman, Vigliano.

It will be interesting to see what comes about. They certainly didn't make it easy on themselves by accepting an opener with Newberry. Just hope the line can protect whomever settles in at QB. Sheehan was good in our league, but he isn't the biggest receiver in the world. It'll be interesting to see how he does in FCS.

I thought that about Sheehan, too. But 6-2, 200 isn't that small. Bigger than I thought.

He's 6-2? Maybe he hit a late growth spurt. He didn't appear to be that big on the field.

              Rule of thumb ... lol.

6'2" typically translates to 6'0" or 5'11" in reality.

I can't tell you how many 6'8" basketball players I've stood beside that, well, aren't anywhere close to 6'8".

If you ever want something comical, compare the NFL's official Combine heights and weights of players compared to their listing on their schools' web site.

I remember at my high school, the 'get back' coach would be tasked with asking each player what his height and weight was for the program. Essentially the whole team was suddenly between 6'1" and 6'5".

Both jrshooter and I have done some sports writing in our day, and you can't do that for any length of time without seeing some inflated physical dimensions on programs. Since you talk about 6-8 basketball players, I once provided some information back in the '70s that helped the Ship coach, Rodger Goodling then, sign him with the Raiders. The kid was listed at 6-8 in his high school programs, but Ship found his true height was closer to 6-6.

My favorite all-time was an IUP basketball player who was 6'8" as a freshman, 6'9" as a sophomore, back to 6'8" as a junior and then somehow 6'7" as a senior.

                  Must be in the water.
