Kutztown has a total number of 9 guys named to PSAC East First Team All Conference for 2024. 3 guys on offense, but those 3 take up the majority of the O-Line group. They are RS Junior OT Ryan Scherneke, RS Junior OG Billy Everitt, and Senior OG Adam Kase. 5 of the 6 guys on defense are the front line trenches. They are RS Senior DL Brayden Pohlman, RS Sophomore DL Freddie Retter, RS Senior DL Masen Wilson, GS LB Jalen DeVose, RS Sophomore LB Eden Johnson, and RS Senior DB Drew Hensor.
6 guys were named to PSAC East Second Team All Conference. They are RS Sophomore QB Judd Novak, Junior RB Jaedyn Stewart, Senior OT Andrew Stackhouse, Senior C Trey Quinones, GS WR Kurtis Ravenel Jr., and GS DB Khi'on Smith. Congrats to all our KU guys who were selected this year.
Update: Totally missed this; Freddie Retter wins PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year and Jim Clements wins PSAC East Coach of the Year.Last edited by TDBoi8136; 11-20-2024, 03:22 PM.

Here is how Clements has done against Slippery Rock since he has been coaching KU. Since 2014, Clements has gone 5-2 against SRU. Clements is currently on a 4 game win streak against The Rock. Of those seven match ups, three of them were for the PSAC Championship. Clements is 2-1 against SRU in the PSAC Championship game. Last time they met, KU and SRU faced off in the SR1 championship match that saw KU beat SRU 28-16. This will be the second time in a year that these two meet in the playoffs.

Kutztown = ROCK's Kryptonite
ROCK QB Brayden Long is 22-4 as a starter (3 losses to K'Town); in 26 starts he has thrown a total of 10 int (4 against K'Town)
Kutztown is last team to win a night game at THE ROCK (2012), ROCK record in home night game since 2010 (35-1) and have won 27 in a row since the loss in 2012

Kutztown gets knocked out by Rock on a trick play 2 point conversion. The Bears were wildly inconsistent today. So let's break down this loss.
The defense was inconsistent. Unable to get consistent enough pressure against Rock. The secondary played too soft coverage all game. The times they were successful on defense was when the secondary was aggressive with Rock's receivers.
The offense strongest suit today was when they ran the ball. Unfortunately, they didn't run it at times when they should had (end of first half). The passing game was almost non-existent today outside a few big passes. I don't know whether it was due to the windy conditions or the lack of faith in Judd or whatever.
Coaching was probably the biggest offender today. Probably one of the more recent games where coaching costed the game. Where do I begin; failure to adjust pass defense, failure to manage the clock, failure to establish a pass offense, etc. I don't want to go too in-depth with coaching and player assessment, save that for the season grading wrap up.
Overall, I'm disappointed, I'm gonna sulk and catch up on geopolitics. I want to be petty so badly, but maybe not a good idea to do.

There was a play in the second half that stands out to me. I think it was 1st and 10, Kutztown had been moving the ball. The play call was a screen pass to Gibson and he had blockers out front, and Novak just flat out missed the pass. It hit the ground. Then penalties completely unraveled the drive and they had to punt.
For me, it's going to be really hard to not be bitter about this one for a while. I don't want to sound disrespectful to SRU, but this felt more like Kutztown losing the game than SRU winning it.
I do think it's worth wondering whether or not the bye had an effect based on how poorly Kutztown played.

A day later and I'm still annoyed. Not about the loss but about the complete lack of class the Slippery Rock players showed after the game. Couldn't even line up to shake hands because they were too busy taunting KU players and fans. Doing back flips and sitting on the Golden Bear logo at midfield. No coaches came out to get to the players so I guess they endorse that behavior. I would be embarrassed to have players and coaches like that represent my school.
Win or lose I can still say I'm proud to be a KU fan.

Here is my overall season grade for the position groups for the 2024 Kutztown Golden Bears football team. Two things before diving in. First, I am a fan of the game who has very little experience beyond middle school flag football church league. I am not an expert, I am just a fan with a opinion. Take what I say with a grain of salt. Second, I will "retire" this thread once the 2024 season is over. There will be another Kutztown football posting spot called "2025 Kutztown Football" when the 2025 recruiting class is announced. It's just easier and less stuff to go through if we do a yearly Kutztown football group thread instead of one giant, clustered thread. With all that being said, here is my grading.
Quarterbacks- Year 2 of Judd Novak; after stepping in part way into last season, Judd solidified himself as KU's QB 1 moving forward. This year, the expectations for him were to take that next step forward and be an even better QB than he was last year. This season felt like Judd didn't take that leap or step forward we thought he would or could make. His overall stats for the year 154-243 for 2,004 yards (63.37%), 20 passing TD's to 5 INT's, 433 rushing yards with 4 rushing TD's. Obviously, he played less games this year compared to last year. But, most of his stats from last year to this year were down. His completion (168-154), attempts (316-243), passing yards (2,239-2,004), passing TD's (21-20), rushing attempts (125-88), rushing yards (644-433), and rushing TD's (6-4) were down this year compared to last year. In terms of what improved this season for him were INT's (9-5) and completion percentage (53%-63%). It felt like Judd didn't wow me as much this season. I thought his decision making this year was inconsistent. There were a lot of times when he would either put too much on a throw or not enough. His quick decision to also scramble at times was also confusing. I don't know if it was a designed play or Judd made a poor read on an RPO decision. He would, at times, make a run right after the ball was snapped on what looked like a passing play before the receivers could do anything. It felt like the coaching staff at times weren't confident with Judd and limited how often he would pass. I think Judd has the potential to be a good QB, but he needs to work on his decision making. Overall Grade- B-
Running Backs- This is usually one of KU's more consistent groups from season-to-season. While I don't think this years' group was as effective as other years', they still did a fine job. Jaedyn Stewart had the most yards rushed with 596, 5 rushing TD's, and 1 receiving TD. Burkhardt was second with rushing yards with 548, but lead the RB room with 9 TD's, also 1 receiving TD. Stewart and Burkhardt weren't super speedy guys, but they were able to wear down defenders with their physical style of running. Hopefully their first full year as 1A and 1B RB will lead to growth for next season. Newcomer Piotr Partyla had 161 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD also made his prescience as a RB #3, hopefully he can see more field time next season. I think the RB group this year wasn't bad, but definitely didn't have as much of an impactful role compared to other seasons. Overall Grade- B
Wide Receivers- The receiver group this year weren't as impactful as other years. Ravenel put up 423 yards and 5 TD's despite facing way more double coverage and injuries. Gibson lead the way with 550 yards and 7 TD's. Noah Kracyla emerged as a future key piece to the WR room. He stepped up in the latter half of the season when Ravenel was out for injury. Noah put up 547 yards and 1 TD. I think teams understood how dangerous Kurtis and Mehki were as receivers and it showed this season. They faced a lot tougher coverage and were kept pretty quiet this year. I think that played a role into why Kracyla was so effective compared to the other guys. They were more concerned about them and didn't have much info on Noah. I also think, as I mentioned under the QB section, the QB play also had a role in the lack of receiver production. Judd was not making good throws and they limited the amount of passing plays in the games. This was Ravenel's final year, and he was a beast last year. It is kind of disappointing we didn't get to see more of him this year. Hopefully Mehki and Noah and hopefully a new third option will step up for next season. Overall Grade- B-
Offensive Line- One of the position groups that is fairly consistent under Clements. It's obvious how good they were just by looking at the PSAC East first and second teams list. KU's O-Line occupied 3 of the 5 spots for the first team. KU occupied 2 of the 5 O-Line spots for the second team. I think the group as a whole did well. They protected Novak from getting sack a lot and created opportunities for the RB's. What more needs to be said? Overall- B+
Defensive Line- Another position group that is consistently good under Clements. 3 of the 4 D-Line starters nabbed First Team spots. There was no weak link on that line this year. Freddie Retter lead the way with 43 tackles, 13 TFL's, and 7.5 sacks. He's only a RS Sophomore, plenty of time for him to get even better. Jake Davis had 35 tackles, 9 TFL's, and 5 sacks. Brayden Pohlman tallied 30 tackles, 8 TFL's, and 5 sacks. Masen Wilson rounded out the group with 28 tackles, 7.5 TFL's, and 5 sacks. Newcomer Khyree Butler, who didn't see consistent playing time, also flashed potential. He had 31 tackles, 2.5 TFL's, 1 sack, and 1 INT. The line did a great job containing the run game and pressuring the QB's. Overall Grade- A
Linebackers- I'm gonna sound like a broken clock here. But this is a position group that is consistent with Clements. 2 of the 3 starters nabbed a first team spot. Eden Johnson had 60 tackles, 6.5 TFL's, 3.5 sacks, 4 PBU's, and 2 INT's with one of them being a pick 6. He's only a RS Sophomore so expect to see lots of him in the future. Jalen DeVose had 57 tackles, 7 TFL's, .5 sack, 1 PBU, 1 INT, one pick 6, and 2 fumble recoveries. Brandon Strausser had 46 tackles, 4.5 TFL's, 3 sacks, and 2 INT's with one pick 6. Brandon Hile 35 tackles, 2.5 TFL's, 2.5 sacks, 1 INT, and 1 forced fumble. I feel a little bad, these last three sections haven't provided much. But there isn't too much to say when your position group as a whole did a good job. Overall Grade- A+
Secondary- I have mixed feelings for this group. Looking at their stat line, the group seemed fine on paper. But when I watched the games, it felt like they were a weaker point for the defense. The group as a whole had 13 INT's and 23 PBU's. But it felt like teams had few problems with our secondary. Especially towards the end of the season. Teams found out the secondary's weakness and exploited it. Secondary needs to ditch the playing too loose with WR's. It will burn them in the future if they continue it. Overall Grade- B-
Coaching- Coaching this season felt like it was off its game, especially on offense. The offense never changed things up even when they couldn't find the right combo or consistency they were looking for. Last year, they changed things up for the last few weeks after doing the same old stuff for most of the season. That change worked really well, but they never changed much on offense this time. Same with the pass defense. The secondary was getting cooked more for the last month or so of the season, but they didn't change much. I don't know, I think coaching this season felt like a bit of a downward trend this year. Not saying coaching is falling off, but it felt like a step back this year compared to last year. Overall Grade- C+
