2024 Coaching Pay Data

I try to not publish individual names' salaries on here even though they're publicly available for the public schools in the PSAC. If you're that curious, you can do the leg work to look it up. Opinions on coach pay is usually relative to the compensation of the person looking. Some are identified by school on the basis of range.

Before I go, there are two caveats:
1) Shepherd is a public university in West Virginia. Their reporting is behind. The latest data is from the 2023 calendar year.
2) Gannon and Seton Hill are private, so the only public salaries are their highest paid employees, none of which are football coaches.

Some other details:
3) The number one variable in salary is experience. More experienced coaches will make more than less experienced coaches, often in spite of responsibilities.
4) Most schools have 5 full time coaches including the head coach. All others are part-time, student employees like GA's or student workers, and volunteers. There are some DFO and STC's who are volunteers.

The average staff has 7 paid coaches not counting graduate assistants, student assistants, and volunteers. The largest paid staffs are Kutztown and West Chester. The smallest paid staffs are Clarion and Shippensburg.

The average salary is $133,487. The range is $166,965 to $96,151.

Other Assistants
The average salary of assistants beyond coordinators is $34,204. The range is $106,319 to $2,000.

Jimmy got a big raise in the off season.

Part of Smith's huge pay gap is tenure. But including Tort, IUP has 3 coaches making $100k+. The OC has someone reporting to him that makes $40k more. But again, tenure.

Coordinators tend to start in the $55-65k range with some rare exceptions. Here's total coaching staff pay:

If it was a PASSHE school, probably part time temporary and only for the season.
