  • R.I.P. Florida Beach Bowl (2023-2024)

Gone just as quickly as it got here. I can't say I'm too shocked, as it seemed like the organizers were trying to make it like the D2 equivalent of the Celebration Bowl and that just doesn't really work as well at this level of play. I thought that it would at least last more than one year though. Back to playoffs or bust for CIAA and SIAC postseason play for now.

I'm not shocked about this. I expressed my issues in the past:

    1) Having it in South Florida when the closest eligible school is Edward Waters which is still a good 4 and a half to 5 hours away.
    2) Having the game a good month after season ends for most teams.
    3) Having it on a weekday only a few weeks before Christmas.

On the positive, it seemed like they attempted for this game to have a "bowl week" environment with various events. Also, the actually quality of the stream was very good last year.

I think an end of the year bowl game between the CIAA and SIAC is something that can still happen in the future; however, that game needs to be scheduled for a date in November and it needs to be played between NC/SC/or GA.

Not shocked either. The way they lost money with the game being rained on and not hardly anyone showing up for a game ON A WEDNESDAY (I know this is a run on sentence LOL), it was bound to happen.

To bad Florida Memorial University (NAIA) couldn't host the Sun Conference's top available team against either the CIAAs or SIAC (rotate every year) top available team for an annual South Florida football showdown. (The Betty T
Ferguson football stadium) I believe it would be a whole lot more successful and fun.

FWIW, the way the news article is worded makes it sound like it's just on pause, and that there's potential for it to return in 2025. Now, am I optimistic that it will return for 2025 after getting put on hold only a year after its inaugural game? Well...
