  • 2026 West Florida

The spring 2026 roster is posted and totals 85 players. The HS class signed this month is not included along with half of the transfers.

There are 12-15 DB, LB, DL, OL and WR. There are 4-5 QB, RB, TE, LS and P/K.

Starting RB Jay Sharp is not listed, but starter RB TJ Lane returns. Punter Michael Shine returns along with TE Robinette. Lots of top starters on defense are gone as well as the QB and lots of WR.

Given the losses to graduation and the portal it looks like there will be battles for starting spots at nearly every position group on the team. There will be a new QB throwing to a new group of WR and a lot of new faces making tackles and sacks at all levels of the defense too.

The double wide construction office trailers have been installed on the adjacent practice field within the construction area fencing. A sign that actual construction activity may begin in the next week or two?

I attended the hour long spring game today with a good crowd of a couple hundred in warm, breezy and sunny weather. The defense was in all green, the offense in all blue and the QB and kickers had white jerseys.

They ran the offense from their own 20 and red zone 20 and QB down by touch. They did FG with and without the special teams on the field. There was no kickoff or punting and refs were present to call penalties.

Overall the offense did better at moving the ball and scoring than in the last 3-4 spring games where the D shut down the offense. The D did get a lot of third down stops and forced a fumble and had a pick 6.

The offense had a 70 yard run by RB Lane, multiple long pass completions where a short to medium pass resulted in a long play. One QB got free in a red zone TD run and a couple more red zone TDs by RB and WR on run and pass plays.

All 5 QB played and two are lefties including Arkansas transfer Boda who got the most snaps. He didn’t QB a score and not sure who was who of other QB since their numbers didn’t match the roster. Overall the QB looked much better than past spring games.

Looks like TJ Lane is starting RB with a couple more taking most of the rest of snaps. The WR are all new and most of the balls caught were by transfers not on the team last year.

The FG kickers made FG and there are three of them competing for the job. Two returners from last year and the transfer from Miles all made and missed with kicks into a stiff breeze.

The defense stuffed most of the runs and knocked down most of the passes, but did give up more big plays and TDs than last few years of spring games. All of the QB showed good running talent and threw good balls with exception of a few bad ones caused by the defense.

Overall the most entertaining spring game since Austin Reed’s last year in 2021. Since all the QB played well it is hard to say who is leading other than Boda took the most snaps. Should be an interesting year with lots of new faces getting playing time.

Argos renew old rivalries with North AL and West GA. Do they fill out a 12 game schedule with 5 OOC?

I"m very happy for UWF, but the way it's working out, it leaves Valdosta State, West Alabama, Delta State, and the CC teams all kicked to the curb this coming season.

Delta State currently has West Florida scheduled 31 October 2026. That game might stick.
West Alabama and Valdosta don't have their 2026 schedules posted yet, so I can't see when the UWF game is scheduled.

I think you may be right. I’m thinking that UWF might be keeping those home games down the stretch in October with NE State, UWA, and DSU.

This top 25 is surprising to me given that Argos beat two unranked FCS teams and lost to a ranked FCS team in their entire history.

The Argos may have a great inaugural season but this is clickbait by Flo. Read the comments. Haha. The first clue that they don’t follow FCS very closely is that UWG lost their coach back to Mercer and most of the team hit the portal. We have no clue how the Wolves will do despite a good season last year.

How UWF will do without Stokes will be a major question for the Argos to know how they’ll do against UAC teams. UNA and UWF both played NE State last year with UNA winning by 28 and the Argos by 7 just 3 weeks later. And the Lions wound up at the bottom of the conference after several very close losses (3 in OT including to National Runner-up Illinois State).

That early game against UCA on the road will be a decent indicator of how the 2026 edition of the Argos will compete with UAC teams. Last year, it was hard to really predict most of the winners as a ton of games were won by less than one score. I’m curious to see how Tarleton and ACU are this year. Of course, with the portal, we don’t know what the rosters will even truly be until August.

OT: Any Argo fans know why the UWF men’s basketball coach was let go?
