Version 2 of "Showdown in Arkansas this Saturday"

The HU-OBU game is over and the comments are flowing about it.

A tied game just after the start of the second half and then it ends with a 31 point difference in the final score. A game where the Harding D line and secondary stopped OBU's offence and the Harding O line did what it does - wear down the other teams defense. BIG Game for both teams and it does'nt stop there.

Battle of the Ravine for Henderson pride and Ouachita playoff possibilities. Several games to be played between now and then so we can't really say what the records will be but I am confident that both OBU and HSU will not lose another game leading up the BOTR. Get your tickets now; it's going to be a sellout.

Harding at a neutral site against Southern Arkansas next Saturday. That game will be another "Showdown in Arkansas this Saturday".

So let's get the discussion going. Harding at 7-0 and ranked vs Southern Arkansas at 6-1 and possibly ranked. What say you?

Harding’ defense will stop SAU, which will lead to the Bisons offense dominating. The only team that can beat Harding in the GAC is Harding, and for that to happen it would take a loss of focus. Based on what I’ve seen so far this year, I can’t imagine that happening.

oh contre, not true. I am sure Southern Arkansas fans will have plenty to talk about game. Two teams that control their destiny are playing this Saturday. One team (Harding) could really control the conference race and establish a good regional ranking while SAU could put the conference race into a three way dog fight as the first regional rankings come out.

As a SAU fan, I feel like the game will be closer with it being in El Dorado then if it was at Harding. That being said, I will be suprised if Harding doesn't win by at least two touchdowns. Harding is really just a better team overall this year. After seeing Harding play and thrash OBU last week, Harding for sure is #1 in the GAC. OBU better gather themsleves and finish the season strong. If not, SAU will take the #2 spot in the playoffs (Still think OBU will finish strong though).

Mulerider, a nice post and comments about the game this week. I too think Harding is a stronger team and want to see them win but I also know that this could be bigger game for SAU to come on strong and with the right amount of breaks put on the pressure. Reality is that Harding will just be too much in the long run and will win, moving SAU to the two loss category. I do wish to see the GAC get two teams into the playoffs but a 9-2 might not make it this year. An 11-0 Harding and a 10-1 OBU might work (HU beating SAU [falling to 9-2] and OBI beating Henderson in the BOTR could put two teams into the playoffs.

I think the Harding-SAU game is a good match up for the Bisons. Although they eclipse the Muleriders in just about every category (Ie. Scoring, Team Offense, Team Defense, Rushing), SAU is a fairly close second in rushing offense and rushing defense. I’m suprised the Muleriders aren’t more effective in passing. Harding’s defense excels in stopping offenses that are run-heavy. I plan to drive from Dallas to El Dorado to see this one. The 3 pm kickoff makes it easy. Never been to El Dorado. It looks like I have to drive half way across Northern Louisiana before I turn north into Arkansas. Any recommendations on where to eat? I l love BBQ and fried catfish.

I’m looking forward to this one to OldBison. I have no preconceived notions that this is gonna be easy. We will definitely have to play a near flawless game to compete with you guys, and that may not even be enough. SAU will have to be focused and physical to be able to have a chance. My only regret is we have to play this game in El Dorado and not Magnolia. This year would have been a home game for SAU and any little advantage helps. But that’s a discussion for another thread!

As far as passing efficiency, or lack thereof, I really think it’s been more of us not needing to throw the ball that much. Jones can throw it. Holds it a little too long for my liking, but he can spin it. We started throwing a lot when we got down at ECU and we came out throwing at Ouachita and were pretty successful. The other contests we got the run game started early and let those big O linemen wear other teams down. Clearly Harding is a different beast. I can’t imagine SAU is gonna come out and try to pound the ball against that defense. Gonna be a long afternoon if they do. I’m anticipating a good mix for this one.

Be safe on your drive in. Sorry, I have no recommendations on places to eat in El Dorado. We usually stay at my camp which is an hour from there, and eat before we go. Best of luck to you guys. Hoping for a competitive, safe, game!

He and I can’t leave Dallas until 7:30 - 8:00 am. We’ll be lucky to make kickoff now that they’ve moved it from 3:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
