  • Thoughts on the new coach?

    • Ugh man that's a heartbreker. Little worried about how our secondary looks, but not gonna hit the panic button just yet over losing on the road to the number 2 team in the nation

      • Well turns out the 4-5 point home field advantage did matter

Yeah, dug deep and put some respect back to their name.

How is it that Mines doesn't have regulation college goal posts??

LMAO...But seriously, didn't watch the whole game so not sure how his game mgmt was. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have to agree with Kle (somebody pull out my toe nails and douse them with salt and rubbing alcohol) to have to start your first game on the road against the #3 team, in altitude and a hostile environment, that's a helluva ask. They showed they have a pair with that comeback.

LOL. DUH. I'm back in the hotel reading these.
I just got to this post so I don't know what future posts hold. One thing. It's interesting reading a live thread when one knows the outcome. Like I said, I haven't read all of this thread yet.

A few thoughts before I forget.
I was surprised that both our lines, O and D, didn't perform better. Whatever the reason. And I thought the secondary would be more consistent with coverages.. Too soft for some reason. I hope they learned a bit tonight. As for Mines, they did bring back the HH winner AND one of the top WR's in D2. They did lose a pretty good RB though. That no call in the endzone hurt, but yes, GV should have overcome it. It did seem like we went flat from there until the 4th Q. I don't know if we lost anybody with injuries, but there were a few wounded. today. Here's hoping the extra days get em healthy to get through Pueblo.

I do wonder how "good" or off the PAT and FG's were. No clue from our seats. But Wooster and some players were really surprised with the call on the winning FG. The goal posts were short and even at D2 level, they should be higher. I'm surprised the NCAA doesn't have a min. height on those.

Finally, for now, the refs... Ughh. Motocha might have known them as he seemed to frequently be jawing with them without a penalty... especially on that sack where whistle blew. So maybe they gave him a long leash and he knew he could mouth off? I thought he took of his helmet.. Isn't that a penalty? (or NFL only?) And that Mines Stud WR had a few post whistle activities. One was called, but flag got picked up. Another he threw an elbow out of bounds.. at least it looked that way from the stands. No call. For the most part GV kept their cool, so hopefully that pays off as the season progresses.

Time to come back home and regroup for CSU P. The season is long and not over. But yes, IMO, both lines need to step it up.

                  • I was pretty shocked by this outcome. I honestly expected GV to win by a couple of scores.

My hat is off to Mines. They definitely showed out.

There was never a good angle to see what the deal was with the field goals. There weren't any below-field-goal shots or anything, so all you had was the endzone view or the side view, and you can't tell on either of those what is going on because of the angles and short posts. It *is* wild though that even on a 41 yard field goal, the posts are so short that the kick easily clears the top of the uprights.

                      • Not that I'm a conspiracy theorist, but seeing that balls kicked in the high altitude end up going higher..pairing that with short goal posts, leads one to believe that refs can "situationally" pick and choose what is a good field goal and what isn't. I don't think those goal post are short on accident.

Well the "rule" is that if it goes over the post, it's supposed to be good (which doesn't make sense to me, but alas), but obviously if you don't have a camera underneath the posts, there's no way to tell if the ball even does that. Just relying on the referees' discretion at that point. Which should be fine, but we all know that referees are pretty stupid fairly often.

I find it odd that the end zone nets weren't high enough to catch PAT kicks. It seemed like most went over the net. At least I think the one in the East endzone was that way. Doesn't impact the game a bit though.

Correct for the 1/2 of 1% of those attempts that are even close to going over a post.
