I'm concerned by how our defense played in the first half, our weaknesses at the offensive line, and (ironically) the lack of discipline. Real disciplined to go and rough the punter with right before the 2minute warning.

I'm encouraged by the defensive adjustments made in the second half.

I think this season will be longer than seasons past. Minimal margin of error for TJ, since the defense will let a lot slide. Last night showed that.

the Oline is a huge Suprise to me. that is the meanest I've seen that group in 5 or 6 years. i love it.

the 18 play drive was awesome lol i sat up there just laughing knowing that NK defense was hurting big time. hindsight is 20/20 but that 4th down whatever it was for that series was lackadaisical. if we get the first there, i dont fell NK never scores that next TD.

I don't think the new staff knows how to use Davis yet.

Maybe they will figure it out, maybe not?

With Hays, UCM, and UCO trending up, it would be fine with me if they dont.

Big game next week in Warrensburg. We’ll find out which Central is for real and which is destined for another mediocre 5-7 win season.

Your new HC admitted that was his fault for calling them to go block the punt at that point in the game. There were a lot of small things really that could have turned it around but he got too aggressive at the wrong time. Of course, had they actually blocked it we would be having an entirely different conversation.

Yeah. It's easy to 2nd guess coaching decisions.

personal foul. first down they score then we step on the gas. We were putting it on them with our line.
That line looks as solid as ive seen of that group since 2018 tonight. Aggression, speed power finishing blocks then tue 3rd quarter hits, we have 2 olineman leave the field cranping. Our starting right guard actually went into the locKeroom for an IV.

With those two out, the offense sputtered and we went back into drop back vanilla offense. Even our 4th down go for it plays had no sense of urgency to them. It was all scripted it seemed.

Our DC flat out got out coached 3rd quarter. They had Davis running the very same offense you saw Vince young run in 2005 at Texas. Read option...read for a handoff first. if the run isn't there, pull it and run yourself. neither of those are there, pull up and pass after initially committing to the run. he was dumping right behind the linebackers that had to account for him running. they only had like 180 something yards of passing and a majority of that was in the 2nd half and 3rd quarter specifically.
stats show Davis to have 60 something yards rushing and 185 yards passing total.
NK did very little in the 1st drive. they were 3 and out and a late hit on Davis puts the O back out there to continue to dink and dive until Davis hits a 29-yard pass into the end zone. next three series were 3 and out, 3 and out, 5 plays turn over on downs and 3 plays and half time. that's what they did the entire first half. 26 plays...123 yards.
4th quarter, 9 plays 82 yards the WHOLE 4th quarter 2 minutes 59 seconds for their RALLY (as their website calls it)

all of the damage was done to our defense in the 3rd quarter. but they still only got 88 yards. they just happen to have a TD behind one of those drives.
where i think we really owned them was in the 3rd quarter on the 18 play 83-yard drive. they were rotating those Lineman out what seemed like every two plays.

ultimately, we held a fairly dangerous offense to 5 three and outs and had a pick 6. the game never really felt like it was in doubt. any NK fan that says it was is kinda kidding themselves. I've seen that offense run better in practice and have a little more open play book than i saw last night. i think we may have been holding back. the gameplan worked well and we won.

                of note,
we HAVE to get the cramps under control. we had two people go to the lockeroom last night for IVs during the game and another one come off the field for a series. all 3 were starters.

stupid penalties. two of those stupid penalties put the NK offense back on the field after a stop one of them resulted in a TD. 9 for 85 and at least tree of them were absolutely unnecessary. i applaud the effort but holding downfield is just silly. let the ball carrier make cuts off you, run your feet and put your hands on the defender and run him where he wants to go. stop grabbing jersey.

how many teams are going to go for it on 4th down against us? lol 1 for 1 last night and the spot on the make was questionable. i still think his knee looked down from the stadium. don't know what it looked like on the replay.

everyone stop talking to quevedo on the sidelines lol. he missed 2 last night of less than 35 yards. he missed 4 all season last year and they were all in excess of 45
Result not in doubt? UNK doesn't rough the punter they have the ball back at their own 40 with 2:25 left and a couple of timeouts. Think TJ might've done something. And, let's not forget, they had 12 men on the field when UCO decided to go for it and fumbled inside their own 20.

Lopers offensive line also was not close to 100%. But, UCO is phenomenal.

The result was definitely in doubt. I feel your pain but UCO has been screwed over by penalties and terrible calls by MIAA officials that have cost us games. So it just is what it is.

One other crap call was the fumble that they wouldn’t overturn. They said it was an incomplete pass but no way in hell Davis’ arm was moving forward on that one.

According to a Tweet by MIAA commissioner, 6 plays were appealed Thursday night. Four were left to stand while two were confirmed. The appeal made by UCO on the Davis 'fumble' was not one of the two confirmed. In other words, the replay was not conclusive and the call remained incomplete pass. Three cameras are used this season. Last season it was just two cameras.

I dont know about all of that stuff.
you might think davis could have done something with less that 2 minutes left when he hadnt produced much of anything all game. Say what you want. It didnt feel like it was in doubt to me. 85 yqrds in penalties, 2 missed fgs a missed qb fumble nd countless runs from unk for ZERO yards.
i just didnt see or feel it.

Three TD drives of over 75 yards but they weren't a threat; okay. Ball was going to be at their own 35, 40-yard line. That's two plays to get into field goal range, let alone another to win it.

And that vaunted UCO offense produced a bagel in the second half. Nada. Zero. Nothing.

Did someone say uco is phenomenal? UCOs dline wasnt 100% either. Part of the game.

Davis is one of the best qbs in the conference. Everyone on here believes it. He was held to un davis type numbers last night. Does that mean uco is better or is davis magically worse than the last 3 years?

Im not saying either. Im saying the defense was worked on all summer for toughness and intensity. It worked well for the most part. The offense has some things to work out but the ball moved when it had to.

1 first drive was dead...3 and out. Roughing the passer let that continue and there was a scramble a couple of plays later that resulted in a 29 yard pass and a missed tackle to score. That wanst a "drive" but what ever helps ya get to sleep.

The only substantial drive was in the 3rd quarter.

We had an 18 play drive that lasted a majority of the 3rd quarter. I mean...

You say 2 or 3 plays to get into fg range to win again blah blah but.....you just didnt. Last year was luck. This year dorrel wasnt going to allow it.

IDK about all that, but it really felt like Davis was a round peg they were trying to pound into a square hole for a big part of that game. Part of that was because they got in a hole. Not sure if that staff will figure out the best way to use him or not.

UCO defense played well, and the ball control O worked in their favor last night.

Agree with all of that. I kept asking myself when the unk was going to show up with the option game...

Its all a process and were 1-0. All you can ask for week by week is improve, stay healthy and leave the stadium with 1 more win that you entered with.
