Obviously there are plenty of exceptions, those are often the guys that make FCS and D2 great.

We should also note that very few FCS fans would use the word "admirable" in the same sentence as "NDSU". But they were dominant for a long while, and I won't fault anybody for being able to do that.

Last thought: There are about 1100 schools spread across 3 divisions. Football is less schools spread across 4 subdivisions, but in a competition that size, it's silly to think that every institution can set consistently contending for national titles as a standard. There's many on this board (especially a few in other regions) who struggle to grasp that a school would settle for anything less than national championships, but the nature of college sports is that for some schools, breaking .500 is going to be a good year. Very few schools have being an NDSU/SDSU as an option.
It may be my limited sample size, but the high school male athletes I know, just want to play, they don't care about tik tok or social media. They like getting public recognition, like any athlete, but they don't really care too terribly much for social media. They want their hudl to have their high lights and they want to get noticed by recruiters, where ever they may be.

Same here, but my exposure is mainly to rural or small town KS and MO kids. So it's a small sample size from what is one of the smaller demographics to begin with.

Small town kids stand out in modern college sports, especially men's sports and more so at the higher levels. I once talked to a D1 basketball coach that said he wished he could recruit a team of only 1A guys that just wanted to play.

I definitely didn't say everyone can be an NDSU. They are basically the power 5 level of fcs I just used them as an example to help me understand where you were coming from.

Same goes for college. Exchange recruiters for scouts.

Random question, do we think the helmet rule that the forces players off the field has done ANYTHING for the game? Just randomly thought about this and how it seems so pointless.

Yes, it has incentivized properly fitting and secure helmets, improving safety. There were a LOT of helmets coming off before the rule was implemented.

That is a different outcome I hadn’t considered. Personally, I can say for the first 3-4 years with certainty it didn’t change the way we got helmets. Maybe the players are tightening them and/or coaches have since adjusted the process, but early on there was no change for us.

I don’t think the equipment people have done anything different. I think it’s a pointless rule. Just looking for rationale on why it isn’t or has done anything for the game.

If your seeing less helmets come off, I’d say they’re doing something.

hard disagree about pointless rule, wear your helmet properly if you don’t want to have to leave the game.

also if it comes off because something broke, I’d say it’s important to have to leave the game

I’d need to see the numbers they ran before and how it’s changed for me to believe that.

Nobody was staying in the game if their helmet broke. Again, I’d need to see how many people got hurt because they didn’t tighten their chin strap. I never saw it during my time in the game.

Gotta be honest I wore mine loose and picked up a face mask or 2 because of it.

You’ll see more teams drop down before they move up. Power 5 schools (in football only) will be breaking away from the NCAA within the next 5-10 years. No money for these D2 schools to move up when the G5 and FCS schools will be losing a massive amount of money with not being part of the TV deals.
