Hands down, I've got to believe this is the best performance by a NW secondary in at least two years, especially against a quality opponent. Maybe three. And, for this Bearcat defense performance, doing it against a #11 ranked team noted for its passing efficiency. Good job, guys!Last edited by ZubCat81; 09-28-2024, 04:03 PM.

I get that. But, like I said earlier, your hotshot QB Gundy had hit only 28.5% of his passes (6/21 and one interception) in the first half. Your QB #14 Ricke is experienced. And, he played better than Gundy. Ricke is gutsy.
So yeah, NW did play a hell of a defensive game, but let’s not pretend like that means much given the circumstances.

If you take a small sample (like 21 passes) and judge it, it’s like saying a player sucks after missing a couple of shots in the first quarter, but they’re usually draining buckets when they get their usual attempts.
If Gundy had played the whole game and thrown his usual passes, the stats would have likely evened out and looked way different. His completion percentage and QBR would be way better because he’d get into rhythm, find his groove, and do what he does best—move the offense downfield.
Now, comparing that to Ricke, yeah, he did alright, but let’s not act like he’s the one who got us to 4-0 and ranked #11 in the country. It’s Gundy who’s been lighting it up all season. Just because Northwest Missouri played good defense doesn’t mean you can pretend Gundy’s first-half stats are the whole story.
So yeah, the defense showed up, but don’t act like a small sample of Gundy’s throws is an accurate reflection of what he typically does. If he had his usual volume, it would’ve been a different ballgame.
At the end of the day none of that **** matters. We couldn’t punch it in on the 1. We couldn’t kick field goals. It should have never been that close in any scenario. Good scrappy win by NW
