  • Hornets @ Bearcats

Saturday is Family Day and the ‘Stripe Out’ game. Fans are to alternate wearing green or white depending on your section😳.
Luckily ours is a ‘green’ section as that’s what we’re wearing anyway.
Hornet fans need to be sure to check to see whether to wear their green or white.
    😎
Could this year turn out to be a repeat of the ‘03 season??

This is a tough one. It looks like Gundy is improving rapidly at running that offense, and he can run the ball if they come after him, so I kind of think ESU is a bad matchup for NW.

NW laid 2 eggs, had a quality win, and beat up on Southern in a stat padding fiasco. I just can't get a bead on where they are as a team. Improving for sure, but not sure how far along they are yet.

This should be a make or break season for RW/TS…heard rumor this is the last year of RW’s contract and Dr T didn’t offer him an extension.

I want NW to win so bad just to humble Emporia. However, the fire RW chants are hilarious to read so this one is a win/win if you ask me.

If you are a UCO fan I think you want NW to win. However, watching the message board explode next week when NW season is over after 5 weeks does have its merits. Between the RW diatribe and the discussion on who to pull redshirts from so they can gain valuable game experience before their coach is fired and they hit the portal would make for a fun week.

Cautiously optimistic. If Gundy keeps improving with every week here, the ceiling is really high for what we can accomplish. Not a great time for us to catch NW at their place with their backs against the wall a bit, especially when there will be some motivation for them to avoid a repeat of last year.

The Emporia State Hornets are flying high with an unbeaten record and have their sights set on continuing their dominance in the MIAA. Coming off a thrilling overtime win against Missouri Western, they’re ready to take on the Northwest Missouri Bearcats in what could be a statement game. Here’s why the Hornets could come out on top again:

                        🔑 Key Storylines:

                        1. Streaks & Records: The Hornets are on an 8-game win streak, the second-longest active streak in Division II. Emporia’s defense led the charge last season against Northwest Missouri, pulling off a 33-13 victory and snapping a 29-game losing streak to the Bearcats. Can they repeat the feat and make it two in a row?
                        2. Dominating Defense: Emporia’s defense is no joke, leading the nation in interceptions and ranking 7th in pass efficiency defense. Playmakers like Tyler Schultze, who ranks 11th in the nation in interceptions, will be looking to shut down the Bearcats’ offense again this year.
                        3. Gunnar Gundy’s Hot Hand: Quarterback Gunnar Gundy is lighting it up! With 4th-best passing yards in the nation and top-10 in TD passes, he’s been a game-changer all season. His connection with receiver Tyler Kahmann (3rd nationally in TD receptions) has been electric.
                        4. Northwest’s Challenge: The Bearcats are having a tough season at 2-2, but they can’t be counted out. Chris Ruhnke leads their offense, and they’ll be looking to pull off an upset. However, the Bearcats’ struggles, especially against top-tier defenses, could leave them vulnerable.

                        💥 Players to Watch:

                        • Emporia State QB Gunnar Gundy: 1,200+ passing yards, 12 TDs in just 4 games.
                        • WR Tyler Kahmann: 6 TDs, making him one of the top threats in Division II.
                        • DB Tyler Schultze: 3 INTs already this season, ready to lock down the Bearcats’ air attack.

👀 Final Thoughts: The Hornets have the momentum, the defense, and the firepower on offense to secure another win and keep their undefeated season alive. But with Northwest Missouri’s pride and past success, this game could still be closer than expected. Expect an intense battle between these MIAA rivals!

🏈 Prediction: Emporia State 31, Northwest Missouri 17

Huh ... its Family Weekend Day at Bearcat Stadium today. Looking at the East Grandstand at Rickenbrode/Bearcat Stadium I think NW must have confused the students thinking that Family Weekend meant that they were supposed to go home to visit their family. Dang. Hate when that happens.
