  • UNK's Held Extended Through 2028

Loper head football coach Ryan Held was one of four UNK head coaches who had their contacts extended through December 31, 2028.

The other coaches who signed extensions were Rick Squiers (VB), Dalton Jensen (WR) and Rob Breton (WSOC).

I'm impressed with Ryan Held. I bet the players really love this guy. Good times ahead for the Lopers.

What is WR? Wrestling? Women's Rowing? Something else?

I really hope he succeeds here. I was bummed when Lynn left for West Texas A&M after he had built the program up.

The first year under Held was rough but I was encouraged by the improvement this year. He seems to be well liked by the players, community and even throughout the state thanks to his connections to UNL. He's coached at every level so he's seen a lot and has a lot of connections, and he embraces social media and the transfer portal. He definitely has the potential to build a decent program in Kearney.

I even saw yesterday that a player who transferred out after this season was giving him kudos: https://x.com/DanielTuiono/status/18...Des1x6-rg&s=19

Wrestling, although women's rowing would be interesting. UCO offers it.

Held really seems like a stand up guy and I would have no problem with my son playing for him. We stopped by during recruiting on a random Saturday to check out the field and weight room with one of the assistant coaches. He saw we were there and sat us down in his office for about 30 minutes just to talk and tell us about his plan for the Lopers. He was very down to earth and answered all of our questions honestly. I really appreciated how he mentioned his weaknesses and some of the challenges there would be at UNK and didn't pump up everything.

Plus, I think it's great how he makes the effort to schedule these non-con games with the other Nebraska schools and also sets up scrimmages with other teams. He seems to do a lot of things that the players really like, more than many other coaches.

When they aren't playing UCM, I'm happy to pull for UNK.

That's a great story. It's cool to learn some of that behind the scenes stuff about coaches and players when there's not a camera on them or a microphone in their face.

Lambo seems like that kind of guy too. I always find him likable and enjoyable to listen to.
