No one has said that institutions are masquerading as Duke of NC. They have said that institutions are in the same DI level. Like any level, there are many levels of players.

tsull is consistent about his disdain.

That move though is great for BYU as they even have a Football championship in the past.
I kind of never thought BYU fit the WCC. They have football and a huge basketball arena which WCC schools have neither of those. That said they are a fine basketball school and excellent football school and I thought the Big 12 should have taken them a decade ago. St Mary's is still good enough now and then to fight for a sweet 16 spot.

I'll always be of the theory that not everyone belongs in D1 and actually about 150 of the 355 don't belong, that D2 is not a bad place to be, and trying to get into the arm's race when you're Maryland Eastern Shore is a fool's errand.

The biggest poster child for going D2 is Chicago State, which plays in the wayward WAC, won 1 game in hoops last year and wins about 4 or 5 a year. The only publicity they're getting from being D1 is bad publicity ... and the school almost shut down and they STILL stayed D1. Insane.

I find the arms race isn't for every school and certainly not for 355 of them, just the point I was making.

About a decade ago, Western Oregon made the 20-mile trip to Corvallis to play Oregon State in men's basketball. Western Oregon won the game and was in control most of the way.

After the game I had no thoughts that the university should go into massive debt to build a new 10,000-seat arena, crank up the coaches salary to $300,000, start cheating to get players, build massive weight rooms and get the D1 identity. I never thought that. A lot of fans take that one victory or even playing close like Eastern against Kansas to justify some crazy moves by the university.

I thought it was a great effort by Western Oregon to beat the Beavers, a team that made the elite eight last year. It jump started a very nice division 2 playoff run for a few years in Monmouth. That was good enough.

I cannot tell you how many times I have seen a football team think it was championship caliber because it played the eventual champion close. There is a lot more than goes into being a championship team that one close game against the eventual champion.

Rainwater no longer has the "WIU" on his Twitter bio. I cannot find anything on him. Looks like he hung up the cleats. I am also trying to find something on Mykel Campbell, wondering if he transferred somewhere.
