  • OT America's Team Dallas Cowboys TV Ratings

Jerry must be seeing a sea of red due to the Covid 19 shutdown and now it appears early on that a lot less people want to watch them on television also. TV ratings came out today and the Cowboys lost over 20 points in viewership from last year's opener.

That's across the board for NFL games, not just cowboys. I think people are getting tired of outside things entering their "escape". Right or wrong, it's happening.

If this doesn't send a message to the NFL and the TV Execs, I don't know will? Even in more recent seasons when viewership was like a roller coaster, the Cowboys were consistent in helping with the numbers on the positive side. Now, they might start listening even more when and IF people stop buying merchandise. When I start seeing discounted current year stuff at Academy weeks before Christmas, then maybe this disinterest might be the real deal this time.

A lot of factors going into this no doubt. I've not watched the NFL much the last few years but it had nothing to do with politics or them speaking out for equality. I think people should realize that politics aren't the reason they're angry at the NFL, politics entered the picture long ago. It's the fact that it's the side of politics they don't like. Sure taking money from the government for military recruiting and standing for the anthem was fine with many, but now that it's a side of politics they don't agree with they're against it. It's all silly really, but that's America of the last long while and it's not going to improve anytime soon.

I've not had cable for years as I hardly watched it, the ease of watching sports for free online now makes needing to watch on TV pretty much obsolete. This goes for every sport, professional or at the collegiate level. Add in the current economic struggles many are facing and the need to cut costs and work more jobs leaving them to have less free time and you get low viewership numbers. Of course there are other factors at play but this isn't as simple as some might want one to think.

I don't think this is a bad thing, sports have gotten out of control, not just in this county, but any major sports league around the world is now spending an obscene amount of money while people living within miles of 5 billion dollar stadiums are dying of starvation and other easily avoided tragic situations. I'm all for sports, but there has to be a point where they aren't more important than human life. Probably an unpopular and socialist sounding attitude but it is what it is.

In the eye of the cancel culture hurricane, maybe it's best if we cancel sports for a while by giving up watching it altogether. Give these guys a few years working at 7-11 and bagging groceries. Get re-started in say 2025 and let's see if we are still kneeling for our national anthem. I've had my fill of all of the nonsense. I don't need it.

I have been thinking lately. Politics, peoples opinions, world issues, social justice, global warming, starving people in the world, left, right, political correctness.....blah, blah, blah! NONE OF IT MATTERS TO ME! This may sound cold or hard, but I decided I don't care about ANYTHING other than taking care of me & mine. No matter what happens, who gets killed, who is president, what iceberg is melting too fast, etc., I DON'T CARE because I still have to take care of my mine regardless.

I don't watch the news, I stopped reading, using, and/or posting on social media, other than this messageboard, and just don't care about "the issus", thoughts or opinions of "the issues".

NONE of it matters. It doesn't take care of my daily business, responsibilities, family, or put food on the table. Sooooo....I simply don't care.

I'm with you, social media is gone besides this board and even that is seemingly come to an end soon. My circle has shrunk to those whom truly matter and I've spent my time and energy on improving those relationships. Not a bad place to get to in life in my opinion. Stay safe Pops.

Why do we need the players to even care about lining up for the anthem? Why can't they just come out of the locker room and play football, you know, the way they did before 2009. The majority of those complaining likely are sitting on their butts at home while the anthem is played. Yawn.

Makes me no diff, but as long as the anthem is being played and the players are out on the field, there is a code of etiquette that we, as citizens, are to follow. We can have our differences in this country, but waiting until the country is re-made to suit our personal preferences before we respect the country is unacceptable.

Now now. Pops that is wrong attitude to take here. I know Chicken Little has deemed the sky is falling and he definitely has some ammunition to back him up. But, we must remember God has a purpose for us to fill why we are here. I spent the better part of last Thursday helping distribute food at the Church of Christ to over 250 families living in poverty in the area. Folks are desperate to get back to work so they can accomplish the goal of taking care of themselves like you mentioned. I hear a lot of people say we should be doing this or that but few when asked will lend a hand or contribute anything extra. We need the Covid killing Pops back not this version.

which is precisely why I am turning off pro sports. I watch it for entertainment, not to be bathed in social justice issues. If I want to see all of that, I'll watch Anderson Cooper.

People wondered what would happen when the "participation trophy" generation grew up and realized everyone doesn't get what they want all the time ... we're there.

Like equality? This is quite a rather interesting view indeed!
