  • OT: Texas FCS Bracket Matchups

Colby Carthel coached Stephen F. Austin (8-3) travels to former perennial D2 Lone Star Conference doormat Incarnate Word (9-2) who won the Southland conference championship for a first round playoff matchup. Winner plays top seed Sam Houston State (10-0) in the 2nd round. Sam Houston beat SFA on the road 21-20 earlier in the year to win the WAC championship.

Note: ACU fired their head coach and former Northwest Missouri State head coach Adam Dorrel.

The Big Sky for us in the Pacific Northwest has 5 teams in the playoffs. Perennial doormat Sacramento State got the 4-seed while Montana and Montana State got 6 and 8 seeds respectively. EWU (one of CWU's losses) and former D2 power UC Davis got in as at larges and have to play in the first round. EWU plays UNI and if they win it sets up a rematch with Montana which EWU won earlier in the year.

Colby will be coaching against his former defensive coordinator Justin Deason at incarnate word. Deason was the DC during the natty year.

Except that Sam Houston will be going FBS after this season. What a way to go out with possible back to back championships.

Sac State got the auto bid, all of the other Sky schools got at larges. What is interesting is that the Big Sky got two other seeded teams in the playoffs, and five total. .

And one of those seeded teams beat a Pac-12 team! An unseeded one beat UNLV.

Montana beat perhaps one of the worst editions of UW football in a century. They have beaten Central Arkansas, Stanford, Arizona, and Cal. Not exactly murderer's row. And UNLV is hot garbage.

Not sure, this one didn't go 0-13 like in 2008. They didn't schedule an FCS team though with BYU and Notre Dame as their non-conference. UNLV hasn't been good in any sport since Tark left their basketball program, but still is FBS.

Former is right!! Incarnate Word beats SFA in OT 35-28. They are no ones doormat now. Good for UIW.

From starting a football program in '09 (first competing in DII) to winning their conference and making the play-offs in D1 FCS in 12 years (one being a Pandemic year). Who's laughing now?

That's a very good win. Good luck to them against Sam Houston State.

On the Big Sky side UC Davis (former DII school) lost, but EWU won to set up a rematch with Montana. That should be a very good game.
