For non football , it's a horrible arraigment. They need to convince Stanford and Cal to move with them.

I'm getting to the point that keeping up with once-beloved college athletics at the D1 level has become impossible for me. Seemingly monthly announcements of new league alignments, lost rivalries and loyalties, and millions for buying players.......leaves me exhausted and apathetic. Where I used to be glued on Saturday to the TV from 11am till it was time for a WT game, and then back to watch recorded late games, I've been losing interest. The great money grab D1 is all about today pollutes it for me. When I want to watch professional football, I'll watch the NFL. At least I know what division each team plays in, who the teams in that division are, and can eagerly await great rivalry games.........season after season. The scrambled mess collegiate football has become is a precursor to fans saying "to hell with this." Or in my case "who gives a sh!t?"

        Am I alone?

We are get getting real close to a the long wished for mega division. Four conferences of 16 teams with and two divisions/conference. All games stay within the division. They want to choke out the everybody else. My bet is that they will form an alliance with the bowls so only non playoff teams from that division get invites. When all is settled they will flip the bird to the NCAA and form a partnership with the NFL.

Not sure how it will pan out but the mega division has been in the works ever since FBS playoffs started. Basically want to keep the riff raff out of that playoff and all of the TV money.

The big issue will March Madness. They need the 64 team format for the TV revenue.

CWU doesn't have the money to move up. It is something that they looked into with the GNAC crumbling in football, but alliance membership to LSC is better for the school financially. Also the facilities really need upgraded to move up, although Nicholson Pavilion may not need that like football and baseball likely do.

I see the Pac-12 raiding the MWC for Nevada, UNLV, Utah State, and Colorado State as they are all R1 universities in the MWC. If they don't add and Oregon bolts, MWC likely surpasses the Pac-12 in several sports including football and basketball. Being a premiere research University is a requirement for the Pac-12, or at least was before this as they now say they authorized "to explore all expansion options", which begs the question if even the football requirement is gone.

For March Madness, there is also another power conference with something to say in the Big East. They even have two recent national titles.

Most likely PAC raids Mountain West who in turn will try to see who in the Big Sky is interested in FBS. Another move the Mountain West may try is to lure UTEP and NMSU away from CUSA.

I think Oregon and Washington would be more likely. Stanford has really good athletics across the board- Cal not so much.

I stopped watching pro sports altogether. Not even the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Stanley Cup and whatever the NBA calls theirs- Larry O'Brien? But I agree with you that D1 college sports is heading the same direction. I haven't talked to one person who says, "This is great!"

                        I like my NFL.

My formative years were in eastern Oklahoma. I was a "The Daily Oklahoman" newspaper delivery boy for 5 years, 8-12. I read every word on every sports page. It was Boomer Sooner all the way. Everyone around me were OUers excepting a few Okie State and the odd Hog (Arkansas) fan.

For years I eagerly watched OU/Tx, OU/Neb, OU etc. Today, you have to start a season learning who the hell are the new teams in the conference, etc. I fondly remember the days of the old Southwest and Big 8 conferences. And the old Big 10 and Pac 8. Oh, well.

I said it in the Off Topic thread on this, but the Pac-12 has lost only 2 members since the Pacific Coast Conference days started in 1915. Those two are both now in the Big Sky and left in the 1950's in Montana and Idaho, although Idaho spent several decades still at the 1-A/FBS level before dropping to the Big Sky. The Pac-12 before this was likely the most stable conference in not losing members adding the Arizona schools in the 1970's and Colorado and Utah in 2010 when there was also a lot of realignment.

Think about it, that is over 60 years before losing a team to another conference and 107 years before a team saw greener grass in another conference to "move up".

You and me both. I grew up on Big 8 Football, and miss those rivalries. I imagine there will now be a Pac-12 Big-12 merger, which will bring back some of the old matchups. But nothing like Nebraska/Oklahoma, Colorado/Nebraska, etc. Look at Nebraska - they've been like a fish out of water since joining the B1G. None of it makes sense, other than the $cents.

Same can be said about Arkansas. They were a dominant force in the old Southworst Conference. They joined the SEC and have been an also ran football program for decades. But, hey, they got that payday along with obscurity on the national college football scene.

Well, they made the Elite 8 last spring in basketball.
