I agree. Tyler is another National Championship caliber team and WT is definitely a world series caliber team in other regions around D2.

Yeah but I have a feeling that ACU might be coming back to the Southland begging for forgiveness like UTRGV, Lamar, and SFA have done. Tarleton might survive on their own given how the mother ship has taken them under their wing but I think it’s likely in their best interest that they return as well. I was surprised that SHSU was able to move up to FBS.

Tarleton and ACU are most likely headed to the Summit with football in the MVFC, or the Summit commits to all sports, and the MVFC agreement dissolves. Both schools would go D3 before joining the Southland. I think this announcement comes in the next couple months. But whatever it is, it will not be the Southland! ACU begging the Southland for forgiveness is laughable.

I actually thought that AM-Corpus and New Orleans would be the ones to go to the Summitt since they do not have football and then a couple of other Texas schools with football would take their place. Regarding the bolded part. There were loads of SFA fans and alumni several years ago on the FCS boards saying adios and good riddance to the Southland and for a long relationship in the WAC to jump to FBS football with perhaps Tarleton. If Tarleton and ACU go to the MVFC, they can kiss any football playoff hopes goodbye with that move.

Not as much as D2. I counted 4. The top 3 Dakota teams good luck breaking through that wall and Illinois State was seeded higher than ACU and Tarleton. Also ACU and Tarleton (and IW) got boat raced by the top MVFC teams. The bad records count FBS losses. Saying they would be a "shoo in" is a stretch there.

Easily especially in the Southland. There were some years that the LSC champ could have beaten the Southland champ in Men's basketball and possibly Women's volleyball. It also may have kept other coaches around longer that bolted for FCS schools and the fan base more engaged. That being said it would have been interesting now in regards to how WT would be handling the NIL world. Have a feeling if WT went D1 and then Wendler came in afterwards, then WT might have dropped from D1 to D3 at the slightest hint of trouble.

What is scary for branch campus schools like West Texas A&M is, the A&M BOR can appoint someone as president who has zero investment in the community. And if they have wild and crazy ideas on things like athletics, such a person can completely and single-handedly alter the course and trajectory of the school for decades. Seemingly no accountability or concern for the real stakeholders - the students and alums. They just have to sit back and take it.

This could never happen at a major university, because there IS scrutiny, accountability, and guardrails.

I think it happens to schools all of the time. Whoever the mothership appoints, the stakeholders just put up with it. That is the flip side of being an affiliate of a larger system. The mothership knows better.

I would be very surprised if the A&M BOR have ever even been to Canyon, TX. When the BOR heard that the museum closed because they failed to keep the building up, their response was probably something like “Museum? What museum? How much?? Tell you what, just shut it down. In two years all will be forgotten. And now, let’s approve that $300 million reno to Kyle Field.”

When you think so little of yourself that you think someone 450 miles away can take care of your university better than you, you get exactly what you deserve.
