Assistant coordinator at a high school, to be specific. And yeah, I was wondering that too. At one point he was the OC at Baylor, which seems really impressive for an LSC coach, but to go from coordinator at a P4 school to OL coach at Lubbock-Cooper makes me wonder a lot about how he ended up there

Lot of experience but never a head coach. Not surprised they hired someone who was currently at a high school too. I was thinking it was going to be tough for someone to accept the position.

On one hand, this could be the toughest job in the LSC considering the transition from D3 and the funding issues, but there might be a huge opportunity too if he can win some games there (which they haven’t really done for pretty much ever).

Yeah for the times we are in, I think it was a mutual option to try it out.

Sul Ross needed a head coach badly (after a 2 month delay) with some college coaching experience and I am sure Lee is jumping at the chance to parlay this into something more and also no longer teaching in a classroom with high school kids.

If it doesnt work out, it was expected due to Sul Ross's lack of funds and transition and he could always go back to coaching in high school at some capacity.

Sul Ross didn't have funds to compete in D3. The financial picture there must be pretty ugly.

He was the OL coach at Texas Tech and was let go. Maybe he stayed in Lubbock and coaches HS ball so his family didn't have to move or kids could finish up school? Just a guess. Seems to me Sul Ross could do far worse. Looks like a good hire to me.

That will be a disaster for Sul Ross

Yeah I heard the AD there likes to schedule weak teams to make his coaches look good. Last year they managed to get by North American, 77-0.

i think Sul Ross was better than NA last year.

Since WT can’t beat decent D2 teams, why don’t we schedule some big team like Texas so we can get a payday too? Lynn can always say you can’t expect a D2 to beat Texas, and he would be right!

WT played U of Houston once or twice when WT was D1. I went to see the game, The Buffs got blown out but it was great to see them in town! I still have the program.

I remember seeing an article about that game on ESPN. It was 70-0 at the half, and both teams agreed to 5 minute quarters for the second half. Surely Sul Ross can do better than that

Sul Ross did win 2 conference games last year so it isnt completely a hopeless situation like Simon Fraser.

I wouldnt be against WT scheduling ACU or Tarleton.

It would be ironic that they would be paying WT to play them after getting beat by WT 15+ years ago.

ACU or Tarleton? No, let's go for a big name. Baylor would do, WT once hired away their head coach! We played them around 1980 and got hammered.

                                No McNeese State !
