  • The REAL FCS: Montana vs. Montana State

I laugh when people say, hey, just jump up to FCS. You'll suck, but do it anyway. If you want to know how the game is played, check out Saturday's FCS semi-finals at Bozeman on Saturday, which is the biggest sporting event in state history, easily. It's Montana vs. MSU. Tickets are going for $675, more than A & M's first round playoff tickets.

If you want to be a player in FCS, you can average 25K a game like Montana, or 22K a game like MSU. You can build multi-million dollar facilities like both schools. Or you can just say, hey, we're D2, we should be FCS in our 7K stadium and 5K crowds. OK, do it, have fun. EWU doesn't win anymore in the Big Sky when they used to win big and won a national title. Why? Because FCS -- like a lot of college football -- has grown. EWU has an 8K stadium and draws 5K a game . MSU and UM amped up things. EWU as well as Portland State, Northern Colorado, Idaho, Idaho State, Weber State, and the rest of the Big Sky, can't keep up. UC Davis a little bit. Weber just hired a high school coach as their head coach.

You can just join, have fun with that. But you won't go anywhere.

Also, this game feels like the National Championship game rather than a semifinal, especially due to the other bracket.

I will say ACU and Tarleton have transitioned to FCS quite well.

Tarleton will have nightmares for years letting a golden opportunity to make the national championship game slip away like that on their home field.

Totally agree this is the national championship game and the winner will be a heavy heavy favorite against Villanova/Illinois State.

The other bracket contains a school that could outspend the other three combined if they wanted to...........

Villanova is a very rich school with a very rich alumni base......

They aren't like D2 Region 1 teams in terms of being able to compete........

I’m aware…….. they still aren’t going to win the title

Cheapest tickets for tomorrow's MSU-Montana game are $675. A lot of tickets are going for over $1,000. It will be the best game on TV on Saturday, in my opinion.

Also the NE conference is still non-scholarship, right?

I think there are still a couple of those in FCS but not sure.

Why? Because a PA based team couldn’t possibly pull it off? Didn’t they just beat a team from TX on their field?

Could be but Villanova isn’t in that conference….

Haha. What? Nothing to do with PA, but seems there is some SR1 PTSD there, damn. They did beat a team from Texas, that means nothing to me (I’m not a Texas guy or alum/fan). My assertion is based on the Montana teams having superior talent and experience. But who knows?

Record crowd in Bozeman, over 25,000. Electric atmosphere and just a great night for football in Montana.

I was shocked at the score. In Oregon I ran into a guy at the grocery store with a Griz sweatshirt on, he was pretty bummed. I asked him what he thought and he said that the Bobcats just destroyed them in the second half. I tried to cheer him up saying you had a good season. I don't think it did any good. The alcohol he bought probably helped things better.

Montana State is the real deal. Awesome program, awesome coach, awesome fan base.

The biggest sporting event in the history of the state and they came up big.

The Northeast Conference? It's a scholarship conference, I think they award 45 scholarships and I think they recently agreed to allow up to 65.

Non-scholarship is the Pioneer League (San Diego, Davidson, Butler, Dayton, Georgetown, and a few others). The Patriot League might be scholarship now that they got schools like Villanova to join.

I meant the D2 NE 10 conference is non scholarship?
