  • OT: Ad Pop-ups

Is anyone else noticing the extraordinary amount of ads lately on D2 Football??

Sometimes while trying to get on, I just get frustrated with all the ads and leave. ðŸĪ·ðŸŧ‍♂ïļ

What bothers me are the ones that block the whole screen and then you're trying to find where you hit the exit button. And if anyone uses the weather channel app on their phone, they probably noticed that ads have skyrocketed there too.

And yeah I understand the guys who run this page are probably going to go on about saying how it's the only way to keep it free to use and that we are welcome to donate $. So I guess it's a fair trade-off to get to use this page for free.

Lots use to donate. Things have changed. Keep running posters off and you won't gave an audience for advertisers. ðŸĪ”ðŸĪŠ

I don't get any more than I used to. Usually one big one when I first log on. The rest stay toward the top.

I always use my android phone, though. Maybe it's worse on other formats?

I do blame the ads for making me buy a new driver and new grips. ;)

I've found the ads to be really bad on my iphone but not bad at all on Windows.

Just tried on my 16" MacBook Pro M5. Still too many ads....but not as cumbersome as on my iPhone 17 Pro Max. Which is just as bad as on my Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra 1 TB.

I noticed it is the worst when first opening and trying to log in.

Yeah, I get a few pop ups, but jeez, how hard is it to get past 2 pop ups?

I got my wife the new 17 Pro Max for Christmas. She loves it! I still have the 14. I'm holding off for the 20-year anniversary edition next year. The M4 is way plenty for me. All I do is internet browsing, some light spreadsheeting, and stream. That's about it.

When using a phone it IS cumbersome when trying to login.

Nowadays, it's all about USER experience. If you app or site loads too many ads, people stop using it. At least that's what all the analytics show.

As far as electronics....if it was simply up to me, I would have a cheap flip phone ONLY. But business has me with two phones, a tablet, 2 laptops, and 2 desktops. Ridiculous!!!! But, I guess these IT folks know best. 🙄

You know that interest is low when the most active topic is ads, cell phones and other electronics.

I got my first iphone in 2020, before that I had several low end ones. I got the SE which is the cheapest iphone, and it's plenty good for me, though I am frequently shamed for having a model the loyalists claim doesn't exist. I also have a 2018 Samsung tablet. Samsung doesn't make small ones any more so I bought a Lenova last month, but returned it a week later. Horrible graphics, but good speed. Amazon offered me $26 to keep it but I declined. The tablet is good for watching movies when I travel, but little else at this point.

I got an HP laptop with Win 11 last summer. I really don't like it, but I think it's mainly Win 11.
