Wendler destroyed SIU. Took them 10 years to recover. He set WT back years. I’m happy for you guys!

Looking at all the Facebook posts, 2 out of every 3 from every aspect of life are glad he is gone. Most of it looks like his mishandling of the football program, museum, and the drag show.

About the only thing he did well/right was his handling of the drag queen perversion. He is a deeply devout Christian. But he just did not engage well with the general public or support anything especially athletics.

Any time you are relying on "they," it's a total crapshoot. "They" have no investment in WT, and by consequence have little to no motivation to hire a proper candidate.

Aside from possibly Max Sherman, has WT ever had a young, up-and-comer for a president? WT has always been the "out to pasture" gig. I don't see it happening.

Even though Wendler's predecessor, Pat O'Brien, finished his career at WT, his 10 years (2006-2016) were outstanding for the athletic department including football. I'd take another O'Brien. At least he and his wife were always at FB, BB, SB, VB,, etc. They sat right in front of me at SB. He had to ask me to tone it down a couple times. Ha! You might've got a glimpse of Wendler at a FB homecoming. Maybe. He'd be ensconced in his WT luxury box. Only for Homecoming.

His religious beliefs shouldn't have any impact on decisions made at a public school unless you hate the constitution. Baffles me that people don't understand this.

I didn't follow the matter closely, but I do not recall Wendler invoking his "religious beliefs" with regard to the drag show. I believe he said something along the lines that it was degrading to women.

Can't say I disagree with him on that point. The mantra of the women's movement has been "we are more than sex objects," and in drag, we have men dressing up and acting as female sex objects. There's a lot of weird ironies in our society these days. A friend of mine's daughter was in some sort of "pro life" march in Denver for some endangered animal, and shortly thereafter she was in a "pro choice" march for abortion. Figure that one out.
