Why would they decline it?

I don't think of Ft Hays as being a perennial playoff team so I am surprised by this. I have heard of some teams narrowly approving by a vote as to whether they go or not. I would think that they would want to go. Just think of the extra practice that would help the younger players, etc. Also the publicity of making the post season. It does seem odd to me.

I said over on the MIAA board that the coach should have looked each senior in the eyes and told them he was personally ending their careers a game early.

I highly doubt he did that.

Seems like the speculation over there is that something else is going on behind the scenes. Money, perhaps?

Like virtually all college teams at this time of the season, the Mavs can use the extra week to heal injuries, etc. So definitely an advantage of the number one seed. Also of course, being able to play at home in two weeks.
