I know that the Augie faculty is worried about "maintaining their standards" in a D1 move (yes, mostly concerned about football). The NAIA academic standards are not as stringent as NCAA ones. You would get a lot of resistance going that direction.
This is a common misconception. The academic standards are higher in D2 than D3 and higher in D1 than D2.

MIAC vote is supposed to happen today. It will be interesting. So much negative publicity for those in favor of pushing out UST.

MIAC will release statement at 11 a.m. announcing that St. Thomas will "involuntarily'' leave conference no later than spring of 2021. Apparently, Tommies bowed to certainty of being voted out by the needed nine of 13 conference school presidents.

I think it's a really poor reflection on that league.

I am very critical of any team/fan/organization that want to kick a team to a higher level because they think that's the only way they can win. If you can't commit the resources or put in the work to be successful, reclassify to a different level of the NCAA or move to the NAIA.

Imagine if Northwest got kicked out of the conference because they won both football and men's basketball. Heck, St Thomas was the third place team in the MIAC last year in football. This never came up when St John's was kicking the crap out of everyone. They won the league this year and there wasn't a peep. Maybe it was consecutive home losses to UMAC teams in men's basketball regionals hosted by the Johnnies.

Agree. If you can't be competitive at your current level, then find another level that hopefully you can be more competitive at.

If they join the NSIC, the NSIC should be prepared to have them for exactly 5 years before they wave goodbye to D2

As they should. St Thomas has all of the resources of a D1 school if that's what they want. They're far more equipped financially and geographically than Augustana.

To the uneducated sports fan, this could make all of D3 look bad. The news headlines are not good.
