      Ha, yeah - no kidding!

Margenthaler needs to step his game up, only 1 D1 transfer on the roster right now.

Wolves have nine on roster for sure from some form of D1 school including what is returning. However, there are definitely commits still missing but thus staff has added so many different players that I couldn't tell you who is still there and who isn't until four weeks from now when we open with Mankato.

I see no reason this won't be an improved squad but no matter how much time you have together games are different.

The only measuring stick is the UCM game/scrimmage/friendly. From those I heard from it seemed to be a night and day difference from what we have seen. I'm sure cases can be made of who played, how much was played...whatever. it doesn't really matter but the Mules were picked 2nd in the MIAA so it's encouraging regardless of circumstances.

It was stated previously, and really goes without saying, but it comes down to culture fit. Most the D1 transfers I played with during my time at USF didn't up being major contributors. Some were great dudes, others were not, the latter usually not lasting long on the team. Same goes for JuCo guys. USF has had countless number of JuCo guys be contributors, studs, and even All-Americans. It can work just fine if the transferring player buys into the new culture. It's no way to build and sustain a roster long term for success.

With transfer portal and last season I'm not surprised to see an uptick in D1 transfers. The NSIC remains a great football conference and it's easier than ever to be found by coaches. A quick skim of USF's roster shows only 3 D1 guys (Eastern IL, Jacksonville State, and Fresno State), a solid amount of JuCos (fairly typical for the Coo), and surprisingly more D2 transfers than I can remember (SCSU, UMC, Azuza Pacific RIP, SMSU, and Alderson Broaddus 2x).

Really curious to see what WSC looks like under McMenamin. Not saying they will exceed expectations in the coaches poll, but I think they should be significantly improved offensively in time.

Yep- like graduates with a year of eligibility.

I am biased for sure, but I do think that Minot will be improved, be interesting to see if it translates into wins. It is a positive environment for sure. Cant wait to get back to the Herb.

We've got 29 JUCO players listed on our roster. Curiously, six are from Saddleback College. Some of our best performers over the last few years have been JUCO guys. I'm afraid our reliance on them is hurting us though, we get some great individual performers, but I wish we had a core of guys that we could rely on for 3-4 years instead of 1-2. Such is life, I guess. I'm just happy to be going to a football game. My last one was in October of 2019, I think.

I saw them scrimmage Chadron State. If it means anything, both teams looked pretty sluggish offensively. Wayne has a nice little running back though. They may not have dialed up everything that could have, just out of needing to keep things under wraps. CSC lately has not had the stingiest defense, however.

Dragons are picked at about the middle of the pack and hopefully they can be a little bit better. Another winning season would be great to see. It's no secret MSUM struggled a lot just over a decade ago, but Laqua has helped turn that around to being a competitive team. Hopefully losing a year won't take the wind out of the sails of improvement.

Many of them (about half or more) were already on the roster prior to the covid year. Certainly some new transfers this season, but not the number it would appear on the surface.

I agree. The win now mantra seems to take over a lot of teams, but 29 sounds way overboard.

Yeah - that's just JUCOs, then we have the NCAA transfers on top of that.

Obviously, our turnover rate for recruits is astronomical. I think we need to focus on building our culture/brand. It seemed like we were starting to do that, but we're slipping to the pre-2013 days pretty
