However, I believe you are turning into Laker :)
You should see some of the threads in the PSAC forum, in the IUP fans basically turn a non-IUP thread into an IUP thread. This is nothing... lol

The crazy thing is UMC pledged to help fund a new arena and signed a lease - then dropped hockey before the building was ever finished. They did follow through on those commitments though.

Would love to see them get hockey back.

If I ever make it up to Minot State, I may consider doing it by train again - assuming I could get a ride back of course.

This prompted me to find Jamestown on a map. Not a half-bad location NSIC wise. Definitely not the most out-there. Not too far to Moorhead.
If I were to get to Minot for a game, it would be on the train.. Live St. Paul a little before Midnight, get to Minot like 9 AM, leave again that night at 11 PM, get back to St. Paul at 8:30 AM. Not sure how well I could sleep, but for 368 bucks round drip for 2 people, you get beds and could at least TRY to sleep. I think there are 7 or 8 stops between St. Paul and Minot, so sleeping could be a little interesting, but I think I'd try it once anyway

So, reasonably we say add them because the portal exist and they will drastically improve?

The only positives are location because everyone needs to have a short bus drive apparently. If thats the case, lets pick up Valley City, Mayville, Dakota State, Mount Marty and DWU as well.

I'm being a tad extreme there, but I'm just more sold on this is a great attempt for UJ but in my mind, I just don't think the other nsic schools are going to go for it. IMO

Sleeping's not that bad. Done it in both coach and the sleeper cars.

I'm in fargo a lot and a few years back I saw the amtrak sign and I was like, "is that the train deal?" Looked it up and was floored that we still had passenger trains. I doubt I'd ever try it but neat to learn there are people that do.

I've ridden the train once.. was in Baltimore for work, and took the train with my boss down to Washington DC for the day. On the way back, something caused them to have to hit the brakes just after take off, and one of the brakes in the car I was on locked up and created a flat spot on the wheel. We had to go real slow all the way back to Baltimore with a constant thumping of that flat spot shaking the car. Good times.

It's worth it to try once. The stops aren't that long and you'd probably stop for gas/food on the way anyway (albeit 7 or 8 might be a bit much).

tbh, if you treat it as part of the experience of the trip, it's a fun ride. If you treat it as purely an A-B mode of transportation, it's maybe not so great depending on how far you are going and where.

Of course they don't service SoDak so... it's car or plane for me.

Agreed and same. Food wasn't half bad either. I loved going through the mountains in Montana - honestly a trip most people should take.

We were somewhere in NoDak and this guy and his kid got on the train at one stop to race his friend in a truck to the next stop. Not sure what they charged him to do that but I thought it was hilarious.

Doesn't have to be a long trip if you're ever curious about it.

This is 100% the way to look at it.

Back in my single days, I took the train once from Staples, MN, to Kalamazoo, MI, to watch the Beaver Hockey Team take on Western Michigan. Coordinated with some friends in the Cities to do it this way rather than driving. It was fun outside of having to be on the train at 4 AM. We each had our own adult beverages with us, I went through a whole bottle of Crown on the trip from the Cities to Chicago. The conductor wasn't too pleased with us, but told us as long as we kept it down and bought our mixers from the snack bar on board, he would let us slide. Sat in the observation car for the trip and got to see the fall colors along the Mississippi River. When we got to Chicago, we had a layover, so we dumped our bags in some lockers at the station and found some food. On the way back, I used the layover to get to Skydeck of the Willis Tower.

All in all, I would do it again, especially if high speed rail ever becomes a thing in the States.

The way that started, I thought the line "I got a gal...in Kalamazoo" was coming.

A whole bottle of Crown on one trip? You'll always have a 2nd home as a Wolves if needed. Haha

That was just the leg from the Cities to Chicago, about 8 hours..... I don't remember much about the trip from Chicago to Kalamazoo after topping things off at the bar in Chicago.

                              • I really appreciate how we are 13 pages in, talking about train travel.

Anyway, I recommend a trip through western Montana. I'd even like to find a way to make that a trip by itself. The mountains are beautiful.
