Looks like it should give Augie a better SOS come playoff time vs this last season.

MoWest, poor season killed Vikings SOS in 2025.

Having Jamestown and Mary on the schedule didn't help either.

Southwest is a legacy member of the league.....I don't know where l'm going with this. If Mustangs can be great at basketball, why not football?

Southwest is on Augie's schedule again for 2026 (along with CSP). Not playing Jamestown and Mary this coming season and replacing those games with historically better teams should improve the VIking's SOS.

Money, as is true with most things in society. On the field, we haven't had a real QB since Boyer Bouman (maybe Marcus Martin and the one-game-wonder Tomele Staples). Off the field gets a little more complicated, but I'm starting to think the focus of the coaching staff will be developing FBS/FCS talent for the next 10+ years. Maybe that's a little bit of a "doomsday" philosophy.

As for basketball - that's a cheaper sport to run and isn't as prone to serious injury. I also think SMSU has a better pool of in-region talent to pull from (as does most of the NSIC, not just SMSU).

Yep. traditionally the administration has not supported it. # 1 reason
