Tom won a tremendous game tonight. IUP was down by 13 late in the third period and ended up winning by 13.

They got abused for 30 of the 40 minutes but just (barely) hung around ... then owned the final quarter.

I can see why Lock Haven entered leading the East. That's a good team. If their coaches learn how to call timeouts and halt runs ... they could be very good.

Tom has some issues. The record doesn't show it at 11-1 but they have some major work to be done. The PG position is, well, messy.

Side note: both games oddly had big crowds tonight. The women's crowd was way more jacked up (and bigger). They have a nice following.

Looks like Tom is hitting on all cylinders after some trial and error earlier in the season. The rotation seems set.

Justina Mascaro also had a real breakout game at Shippensburg, going for 32 points and 11 rebounds.

He tried working in many of last year's hyoed up recruiting class but their minutes have come way down.

They enter the break at 10-1 and have won 8 straight. This edition had to find itself but has tremendous upside. They are big, deep and athletic -- and only giving up 52 ppg.

This is a team built for another deep run.

And many of the key players are sophomores.

IUP ladies pulled out a tight one. Ship has come a long way in the past year.

Tom won the battle of one-loss teams, 91-76, at Shepherd.

Big road win for the ladies.

Tom up 40-20 on Shepherd (mid 2nd Qtr).

They are making it rain from deep.

Last night's game was the lowest combined score point total in IUP women's basketball history.

Their 39 points tied for the lowest IUP point total in program history.

Griggs sat out -- and she's probably their best player this year -- but ... that's a rough night.

She draws so much attention under the basket that it frees up all of Tom's outside shooters. That element wasn't there and the shooters got swarmed. They were lucky to get out of there with a win. IUP got some real key offensive rebounds late in the game to burn a lot of clock.

Tom's 7-1 but that team has a lot of questions. The PG by committee works fine against lesser opponents. I get the vibe he has been basically holding a PG audition in these first 45 days to see who they'd go with in conference season. Right now it's hard to say anybody is winning the job.

That position needs fixed -- and quickly. They are pretty strong everywhere else (assuming Griggs is OK).

Worst shooting performance, I'm guessing, at IUP in decades.

Chalk it up to one of those nights ... but they have some serious work to do before the West gauntlet starts. The PG situation is messy.

Lexi Griggs didn't play tonight. Not sure what the deal is there.
In today's run and gun era, that score seems improbable until you look at the box score and see combined shooting of 24-108 or 22.2%. Good time to get that game out of their system before 3 X-OVER road trips before Christmas.

Thoughts? Tom's pretty loaded up but is replacing some really big shoes.

Some big news out of IUP regarding the women's team:

Virginia State was originally scheduled to play at IUP. That game is now off the schedule. IUP replaced them with nationally-ranked Glenville State. The game will be on a Friday night in mid-November at the KCAC. It's the same night the men play up at Le Moyne.

As far as the Atlantic Region goes, that's by far the 'marquee' non-conference game of the season.

Also, the women will start the season in the Memorial Field House for their first two games (Nov. 9-10). The men's kick-off weekend will take place inside the KCAC.

Joe's team has no games scheduled at the Field House this year.
