Johnston made an interesting coaching hire too. I don't think she is missed at her former school. Good luck to them. They will need it!
Whom are you talking about? Johnston?

That said, Weaver was still out.

For those who work in the academic world, what did Jack mean by "short-term ineligibility" ?

If that's even the case, does than mean 2 weeks, a month, what?

BTW, Marin Miller was incredible last night.

Not sure exactly, but my guess is that she could be enrolled in an on-line course over the winter break and grades will post next week, this could cure the ineligibility. Alternatively, there could be an incomplete grade that can be completed and posted that will take care of the eligibility problem. Last possibility is that she is appealing a grade. This takes some time depending on the details of the situation.

Understood. I don't know much about her. She was apparently a pretty good college player. Obviously that doesn't always translate to being a good coach.

She'll have a long leash at UPJ. She also is starting from scratch. They are incredibly young.

Her predesesor (I always forget his name) had a decent run there. They always hovered around .500 +/-. He had some decent teams. I guess he stepped into an AD role at UPJ.

That athletic department as a whole runs much differently than most in the PSAC.

As PSAC schools go, they are a little different to say the least. UPJ's coach was a good college player at Ohio State. Quite the athlete. Hasn't been a college coach that long.

The PSAC west is pretty crazy right now. Seton Hill, Edinboro, Gannon, and IUP are all in the hunt, but with IUP losing their one player and then losing at home to both Seton Hill and Gannon at home, that is not good. What could have been because athletically they were a very talented team when at full strength.

IUP didn't just lose its star. They are down (4) rotation players. It's actually quite amazing they are staying in these games against the other top teams. They may get two of them back in early February. We'll see.

The absolute killer in the Seton Hill loss was Carey had to play walk-ons the final 5 minutes of the first half because he had several of his remaining players in foul trouble. The Griffins obviously smelled blood in the water and went on a big run during that stretch.

Getting anybody back will help at this point. But, they aren't making up for the loss of Weaver.

At best, this is now likely a fringe NCAA team. If they somehow get Weaver back ... that all changes. But, I don't think anybody is holding their breath.

IUP plays a very physical style of ball. If you have refs that call it tight, then yes, you will get in foul trouble.

This time of year a lot of teams deal with injuries, just how you can manage through it. Not holding serve on home court though is not good when you got tough road games to come. A season that started out with a lot of promise is quickly going the other direction now. Still hope for a NCAA appearance though. The PSAC east is not that good. Couple decent team in the Mountain East, but they are not what they once were when you had West Lib and Granville State as some of the best teams in the country.

I hear you. But, there's also a reality to losing (perhaps) the top player in the Region and three other rotation players.

Coaches can rant all they want about next guy (woman) up, but, often times there isn't a next person. That's what Carey is dealing with now.

The IUP women are the quietest 15-3 team I think I’ve ever seen. Two of those losses were without Weaver against Gannon and Seton Hill and both could have gone either way. With her back on the floor this team has the material to make a deep run. Yesterday she played just 23 minutes but still had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, including going 5-5 from the line. The other big stat was freshman Lilly Jordan going for 11 points. Instead of having to fill Weaver’s shoes she can come off the bench with less pressure, which is a much more comfortable spot for her.

Well, tomorrow is time to be a contender -- or, perhaps become a pretender.

IUP's last outing wasn't pretty. Cal gave it to them pretty good.

Carey's team is now 10-3 in PSAC play and 15-4 overall.

This team shows flashes of perhaps being really good. That said, there were some alarming things down in California.

They need this one tomorrow. Nyshae' Weaver and Madison Zavasky missed the first Gannon game (61-54 loss). Weaver is back and Zavasky may be, too.

While this isn't a be-all, end-all game, IUP (despite a 10-3 league record) currently sits in 4th place in the West. Getting some home games in the conference tournament is a huge advantage. A Round 1 bye is even better.

Gannon also got beat up in its last game (66-53 home loss to Edinboro).

Tough for IUP to face Gannon at Gannon right after Gannon loses on its home court. But Gannon is overrated this year. They are a good team, but not a great team. Couldn't even beat a GMAC team that is in the second half standings of that conference. IUP definitely is more athletic and has the ability to beat Gannon. But can they? The Cal UP loss was certainly a disappointment.

IUP is somehow losing in the third quarter to a 2-20 UPJ team.

Talks about a bad hangover. Good Lord. Not pretty.

                                Carey survives in OT, 79-67.

Wins are wins. But, it won't be a fun film session.
