That lead off the disgusting unwatchable day of basketball. Joe's middle school "stand in the paint D" was absolutely gross!!!

I truly believe that one official had it in for Belle Bosch. Two of her five fouls were legit, but that woman called all of the other three on Belle in succession that weren’t even close. The offensive foul called on Wilkerson was an absolute joke and should have instead been an “and one.” That was a critical crunch time foul. That crew did everything it possibly could to keep Boro in the game. It’s sickening, but I’m not sure what can be done about it.

When these a-holes think they are the show, 50 fouls get called in 40 minutes.

It's nearly impossible to play interior defense nowadays. Anything a defender does is a foul.

Why in the freaking world Wheeler didn't have her team drive straight at Weaver in Q2 is mind boggling.

These women's games this year are taking an eternity to play. That's the reason. Foul. Foul. Foul.

          • The ladies got blitzed in the opening quarter on the strength of some incredible outside shooting by UPJ.

The Mountain Cats stormed out to a 13-0 lead and had a 10 point halftime lead.

The roles reversed in the second half. IUP got going and won by 15 points.

It was nice to see they didn't show any panic. The film session tomorrow may not be all that fun, however.

            • UPJ’s Margolis shot 7-8 from three in the first half. She’s capable of that in stretches, but you just knew it wasn’t going to last. She ended up 8-13 and was pretty much a no-show in the second half once IUP decided to lock down on her. After that they didn’t have nearly enough fire power to hang for the full 40 minutes. They were held to just 19 points in the second half. In fact, they only won the first quarter, but lost the next three.

That’s one of the biggest differences between this year’s IUP team and the last couple. They come at you in waves and can play 11 highly skilled players. Depth is not a problem.

              • If UPJ is giving IUP a game, beware of CalUP.

I don't see it. IUP beat Cal by 31 and called off the dogs the whole final quarter.

Cal gave up 111 to Seton Hill last night. I think Team Strom has thrown in the towel.

Beating UPJ by 15 after being down 18 doesn’t seem like much of a game to me. That was IUP not deciding to play until the second quarter and still whipping them on their own court. Cal is awful. They lost 8 of their last 10 and got their doors blown off in most of those losses. I’m sure they’ll get up to play IUP like everyone else does and they’ll play better at home, but it’s not going to be enough.

                    • You really never know. Overrated Gannon lost again (although to Edinboro which is a pretty good team). I would say Gannon is closer to Edinboro than they are IUP in terms of talent.

Well, I think there are also some underlying circumstances.

For one, IUP vs UPJ is a rivalry game. Granted, UPJ likely views it that way much more than IUP does. But, they sure bring some extra juice to play IUP. Put it this way, if UPJ had played all season with the energy it had last night ... they sure as hell wouldn't be 7-15. If anybody doesn't know, the two schools are only about 25 miles apart.

UPJ also has some Indiana County players that IUP didn't recruit. That will certainly bring the extra motivation.

As a third item, IUP has a starting forward who started for UPJ last season.

You add all those factors up and all the sudden a 7-14 team is ready to dance. They came out firing but most knew it wouldn't be sustainable. They don't have much depth, and IUP's 'second 5' would start at a high percentage of schools in the league.

We've seen this same story for years and years on the men's side. UPJ gets sky high to play IUP. This year the added caveat is UPJ's strength is the exact weakness of IUP.

Those were good road wins. I fully understand people look at the records of the two UPJ teams. But, at least for IUP over the years, that trip is almost always challenging.

Agreed. At the beginning of the season, I mentioned my concern about the point guard situation and the fact that Cleve didn't recruit any help. One poster wrote that he thought Wright had a lot of faith in Cernuto and Pepple to cover for Tory Mays offensive shortcomings. Well, both Cernuto and Pepple are injured and who knows if they will return this season. Credit Edinboro as they are a very good basketball team, but could not believe that Gannon would go 2 for 17 (11%) from the three point range with pretty good looks. Guess it happens.

                          • It does happen. Seems like it is getting harder and harder to get the real good shooters in D2 as D1 sucks them up. Even coming off the bench coaches are looking for the 3 point specialist that can hit a few in a quarter.to loosen up a defense.

It's amazing how contagious hot, or cold, three-point shooting is on a basketball team.
