Seems like a reasonable choice. It's not a cop out pick like Salem. SSU "expands the footprint" back into Ohio. (Although, the SSU admin should beware--the MEC has a bad habit of bringing in Ohio schools that close LOL). Looks like they have a few quality teams that could be competitive in the league. All in all, the search for an A-B replacement could have gone worse.

Adding Shawnee State is a very good move. Fact they are starting football is very positive for the MEC giving us 10 programs.

MEC seems to have no desire to expand beyond 12 programs. But if they do, I'd be looking at WV Tech...provided they commit to adding football. Worth noting that several years ago they announced a desire to add football, but since then I've seen no statements or action to do so. Beyond them, there is the seemingly eternal desire to bring UPike in.

Interestingly, Shawnee State is currently looking for a basketball head coach after their last coach did a late bold to be an assistant at a D1. Wonder if they would be interested in any of the "next round" of WLU Style assistants:

Greg Bearer, former (?) Coker assistant under HC Mike Lamberti
Mike Chalas, Gannon University assistant under HC Fee, Bazzoli and under HC Crutchfeld at Nova Southeast
Nick Smith, Nova Southeastern assistant under HC Crutchfield, also played in the WLU System at Nova
Bryce Butler, current (?) West Liberty University assistant under HC Mike Lamberti and Howlett, also played in the WLU System at WLU

Some outliers that could be interested:

Dalton Bolon, former WLU player who has been doing independent player coaching
Dan Monteroso, first full time Assistant gig this coming season but as one season as a part time assistant at WLU as well as a ton of experience at the pro level in Europe and two season as in the WLU System at WLU

Off the top of my head, that's kind of the "next in line" assistants currently operating in the WLU System.

Kevin Reynolds would be a hire.
