Well, with a winning streak of 73 games, they would be the next best thing.........

I wonder if some D1 school won't hire their coach after this season.

Before they are called the UConn of D2 I think they need to win a national championship with a second recruiting class. That's not a slight at Ashland but more praise for what Geno has done over 20 years at Storrs. Heck UConn has more national championships since 2000 than Ashland has NCAA Tourney appearances.

Their coach is only in her 3rd season there. She's currently 104-2, with their last loss coming to Drury in the Regional 2 years ago.

They aren't invincible (we had them tied with 2 min to go in the Regional final and Grand Valley played them close a couple times), but you better take care of the ball and make shots. They'll turn you over at a ridiculous pace if you aren't locked in. Their opponents averaged about 30 turnovers per game this year.

Way to go National Champs were the underdogs in three out of the last four games. Shows what can be done when you play tough competition all year long. Congrats.

Central Missouri Jennies win the National Soccer Championship in November and now win the National Basketball Championship. That smacks of the run NW had in the 2016 & 17 season in football and basketball.

                      Way to go Jennies !

Clearly the Central Region is only dominating because the tournament is in Sioux Falls....

Congrats to Coach Slifer and the Jennies. Amazing what he can do when the shadow of the Lady Hornets is looming over him. :)
In all seriousness I would think this should solidify the MIAA as the top women's basketball league in the nation. Three different teams with national championships since 2005, five different schools making it to nine of the 14 Elite Eights in that time.

                              Re: Women's Elite Eight

A couple of other interesting facts.
UCM snapped Ashland's D2 record 73 game winning streak. The previous record was Washburn's 51 game streak that was broken by Emporia State in 2006.
Gannon had the record for most consecutive wins in a season with 37 (tied by Ashland last year) and that was snapped by ESU in the 2010 national semifinals.
Neb.-Kearney has the D2 record for consecutive home wins with 87 (while in the RMAC) and WU snapped that winning streak in 2001.
So three of the records for consecutive wins have been snapped by three different MIAA teams.

Jennies Rock! Coach Slifer's game plan and the Jennies relentless tough defense completely threw Ashland into a tailspin. The Jennies completely shut down the vaulted Ashland fastbreak offense. The Jennies toughness had Ashland on the ropes most of the game and then the Jennies landed several knockout blows in the last two minutes.

Congrats to UCM and the MIAA (one tough place to play ball)
