I actually looked at riding AMTRAK from St. Cloud to Minot for a game and back. The schedule just didn't work out though.
We have AMTRAK in the Midwest?

My sister spoke of some passenger train out in Chicago once, I rode ok a light rail while in Disney World when I was five, but I thought passenger trains have been long gone since back when the troops were fed pheasant sandwiches while passing through Aberdeen...ha!

        I'm always learning with you!

I wonder how long the trips take, I'd consider driving up to Fargo to ride down to Winona some time

I looked....it's an eight hours train trip? I'm sure there is some benefit to this deal but seems like it has to be heading out of business

I think that the rail station is about a mile from the gym/field. There was some question if the game would be done by the time the train left. I would have left St. Cloud about midnight because the train doesn't run very often. I decided to drive and stay overnight instead. Got a nice tour of Ft Abercrombie- about two hours. Not very far north of you.

The Fort Abercrombie Saloon...even in my younger days I don't know I could handle going to that place at night. The stories I have heard! I travel there every other week for delivery. Used to be the Abercrombie Arrows.

I've done the Amtrak trips twice. Here are the NSIC connection spots:

                    Going West:
7:47 p.m. Winona (3 blocks from McCown Gymnasium)
10:03 p.m. St. Paul (5 miles from Gangelhoff Center)
12:24 a.m. St. Cloud (2.5 miles from Halenbeck Hall)
                    3:24 a.m. Fargo-Moorhead (2.5 miles from Nemzek Hall)
8:29 a.m. Minot (1.2 miles from MSU Dome)

                    Going East
                    9:47 p.m. Minot
                    2:18 a.m. Fargo-Moorhead
                    5:19 a.m. St. Cloud
                    7:43 a.m. St. Paul
                    10:11 a.m. Winona

BTW, Fargo to Winona costs roughly $100 roundtrip.

This reminds me of old baseball and hockey teams on the road. Er, on the rails.

My mom's dad was the runt of the family, so didn't play sports like his 6'3"+ brothers, but was still a Quinn Quintuplet, parents were Cresbard Comets. I too enjoy that list

OR I could take the wife's car, spend $60 on gas, not have to drive to fargo and it'd only take us 5 hours from here, haha

They had cooler names back then. Often had some kind of connection with the area. Like the Dutchmen of Melrose and the Irish of Murdock.

I should probably get back on task before the Augie guys get mad at me...

After the one point loss in Aberdeen, I think the Wolves will have another close match (as always) with SMSU but this time the Wolves are the victors with Johnny Dahl having a surprising big hand in the win.

I don't know what to think about USF, but if we make it happen Friday I sure hope we can sweep the weekend. We need it.

                                Hope not!

BTW Southwest is 8-2 in last 10 Hawaiian Night games. Both losses to Winona.
