Heard from a source yesterday (not sure how reliable it is) but they said Saul thought he was a lock for the Western Kentucky job prior to this season and did zero recruiting because of that. That doesn’t excuse his lack of development in the 6 seasons he was here but it was sort of noteworthy.

That would be surprising, but totally possible. Seemed like the reputation greatly exceeded the experience. There were rumors of a departure last spring to a D1 smaller than WKU, but who knows.

Interesting how the news got out. Reporter sees him leaving with his stuff, then approaches players about it. Pair that with what is going around about how the team was informed, and you have a good indication of the professionalism and leadership displayed this year...

On the the future now. Who is in the search pool/wish list? Could be interesting.

I get you’re saying there’s no chance by the comment but we don’t know if he wants to come back to the Midwest or not. Wouldn’t that be something if we contacted him and/or he applied.

Obviously it’s highly unlikely but I wouldn’t put it out of the realm of a possibility.

I think going from a head coach of a power five (or four) school and taking a 95% payout is incredibly unlikely. It would be neat if that were to happen.

If we end up with a certain current NSIC head coach I'll have a very hard time enjoying any of our success.

I have to assume you’re talking Wieck. I don’t know what he’s like outside of basketball but on the court he gives me an arrogant prick vibe - fair or not.

Brett Putz had just led his team to a JUCO national title 2 years prior and had finished 3rd the next year. coach q had never been more than 3rd chair for a college basketball team. If you would have put their resumes down next to each other without any names, it would have been a slam dunk. But heather weems hated Schlagel so much she didn't want anyone associated with his program involved. Plus it was a feather in her DEI hat. Then she up and quits the day after the announcement. Hell, she wouldn't even give Tim Bergstrasser an interview and I think that he's done okay at Moorhead.

But I know the feeling is mutual as I am no longer invited to alumni events. He is no longer running the program, he's now changing history at scsu. That okay though, I'm in pretty good company with Tim Bergstrasser and Brett Putz. At lest they have their names in the record books and he can't change that.

This is either Brett Putz's burner or I think its time to grow up. He can clearly coach. Also, wasn't he the Associate HC at West Texas A&M for like 8 years?
