2023-24 SMSU Mustangs: Restructuring the herd

I don't love playing Sat. morning coach, but there were two things last night that caught my eye:
1) SMSU's last play of the 2nd half, they ran an iso for Cofield against Gabe Myren, probably the best or 2nd-best lockdown perimeter defender in the conference (next to, ironically, Cofield). IDK if SMSU wasn't aware that Myren had subbed in for Beeninga, but Cofield also didn't look to draw a switch with Phipps's guy. Myren gave him absolutely new room (without fouling) and forced a critical TO. As a Dragons fan, I will be happy with any possession that culminates in a guy trying to take on Gabe in an iso.

2) Bigler's begging for a tech... why on earth? The entire crowd could hear his back-and-forth with the ref and the ref's warning, and still Bigler pushed it and got what he wanted. You can't say it was an attempt to galvanize his team, as his players weren't hot about the call, and when the T was given they didn't play with revitalized energy. Instead, the Dragons got 2 FTs and hit them both. It's obviously never one thing that is the difference between a win and a game going to OT, but when it wasn't even an SMSU player getting the T, and the coach was given proper warning, that's just suuuuuch an unforced error.

I wish I knew more about the tech foul. First one he has had in about 4 years BTW -- and he rarely yells so he must have felt they were stinking it up.

Big news out of Marshall, as the Mustangs get a verbal commitment from Gretna (NE) guard Landon Pokorski. Had an Augie offer, as well as CSU-Pueblo and Morningside.

NSU women losing was a bummer but good for SMSU womens hoops. My absolute disgust of the Moorhead radio idiot goes back to when I first moved away to Minnesota. I found an NSIC game on radio and listened in. Pretty sure it was Moorhead and Bemidji, but too long ago to remember details.

Instead of talking about the game, that lowlife went on about a five to ten minute bender of just burying SMSU womens basketball (it was not good at the time). Hearing him enough after that even, and I just can't imagine how he is the best that Fargo/Moorhead can get. Anyways, "started at the bottom now you here" congrats.

Sounds like a busy night in the old haunt - not one, but two basketball events. Yowza! It's been years since there was that much excitement on a Friday night in TigerTown.

Anyway, I'll be passing through town on my way home - so I'll stop and see both SMSU games. I don't own a white sweatshirt though so I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb. Genuinely curious to see what the crowd is going to be like. I can't recall offhand (personally) seeing a team play that was ranked this highly.
