  • 25-26 Mankato Women's Season

The 25-26 Maverick women started off the 25-26 season with a flurry last night in Pennsylvania in the 2025 D2CCA Tip-off Classic. They defeated host Edinboro 113-71. Led by Natalie Bremer's 24 points, all but 1 player scored in this 42 point blowout of the Fighting Scots. The Scots could not handle the defensive pressure and turned the ball over 36 times. Yikes. The Scots actually shot a better percentage than the Mavericks but took 27 less shots.

They face California (PA) later today.

I was in Brookings watching the Jackrabbit women beat Rice last night and didn't get home until midnight. Thanks for posting- I hadn't heard how they had done. That is impressive. Two years ago they caused over a thousand turnovers when they won the title.

I was watching that game on mute while watching the Mavericks game. The team seems to have a go to scorer in Bremer and everyone else seems to be able to score. I'm not sure who will be their #2 option or if they will score by committee but this will be a fun year to watch for sure. The defense was stifling as always, reminiscent of the title team from 2 years ago.

45 turnovers forced (27 steals) tonight. Another 40+ point win.

98-53 the final score vs. California (PA). The Vulcans just could not find a way to beat the press, averaging more than 1 turnover a minute. Yikes. 6 players scored 9+ points, led by Bremer's 16 points. This was a fun game. Now onto tomorrows match-up vs. #2 Union who beat Ferris State earlier tonight.

112-94 the final score vs. #2 Union at the 2025 D2CCA Tip-off Classic. 3-0 on the season, the Mavericks forced 28 turnovers and after an 11-0 start to the game, led the entire game. I wish this team played another top 10 team to see how they look. Early on, this team was definitely underrated and should be, IMO, top 5 when the next rankings come out. This team is legit.

I have them top 2. And I agree. Legit for sure.

Definitely a great start, and will probably be top 5 in the next rankings given how good those teams were last year. I'm waiting until I see a little more to be sure, Union lost a bunch of players from last year and Edinboro was really only a good-not-great team in spite of hosting a regional. I wouldn't have figured last year's team loses Bursch and comes back as a top-10 team, but there's a lot of top programs that may be down this year. With the coaching/system in place up there, I guess it really shouldn't shock me if the Mavs are near the top again, but I might not jump to that conclusion from one good weekend back east.

I agree, I would like to see them against a few more quality opponents to really see how they perform but early on they've done as well as I thought they would. They returned a ton of experience and players from last years team that I believe under performed, they had a few question mark losses last season. I'm looking forward to their games against Concordia St. Paul and especially SW Minnesota. Those 2 should give us an idea where they really stand.

SMSU can't be as good as last year right? Stoltzman graduated...imagine if she had stayed in Mankato. I know her Dad pretty well, from working with him years and years ago. He was a little upset to see the Mavs win it all in 2024, but felt vindicated when they beat us last year.

Webb is a great recruiter and the styles of Southwest and MSU are pretty similar with the mass substitutions and hurry up style of play. I don't understand people who say women's basketball is boring- just watching these to teams play you need a Gatorade and a towel just to keep up.

Very similar to what Glenville State did a few years ago (or if you watch Tennessee women today who is coached by the old Glenville State coach).

You need 10+ players. All get a good amount of minutes. And you go hard. Look at their minutes/game so far. While that will change I am sure, not one player has even played 20 on average yet.

Mav women are up on D3 Eau Claire 49-13 at half. 12 of the 14 players who played scored.
