Unless Mankato's NIL budget has gotten even bigger, my guess is he'll be stepping up a level.

I figured I'd put my annual "Transfer Value" post within this thread as a natural spot (sorry that It's a little long).

For the past two years I've ranked NSIC basketball non-seniors based on how much “Transfer Value” they had. This is a b̶l̶a̶t̶a̶n̶t̶ ̶r̶i̶p̶-̶o̶f̶f̶ spin-off of Bill Simmons’ old “trade value” columns, but in this case standing in for salaries & age is a college player’s remaining eligibility. So the question to be answered here would instead be, “Would you rather have Guy A for 1 year or Guy B for 2 years?” I think it’s an interesting way to answer the question “Which player is the most valuable on the transfer market, all things considered?”

And so, here’s my list after the 2025-26 season. A few points before we dive in…
        • I targeted the list to just the “impact” guys (or could-someday-be-impact guys).
        • I limited the list to guys we have seen play in this league. It’s hard to pin down how good a redshirting freshman will be when he’s just sitting there, and not all HS studs acclimate to the college game.
        • Similar to how Simmons did it, I put players into groups according to what broad category they would fit in. In some cases, I might actually prefer a guy in a lower group to a guy placed just above him, but the categories make things a little more digestible.
Group H – One Last Ride: Solid Role Players
These guys may not have as high of ceilings as the other returning seniors, but they are certainly guys that can contribute to winning teams.
        43. Kelton Coleman - guard, UMary - 1 year left - 12.1 PTS, 43% FG, 27% 3PT, 2.2 STL
        42. Marshawn Smith - guard, Northern - 1 year left - 10.8 PTS, 43% FG, 27% 3PT, 4.7 REB
        41. Dominic Gooden - guard, MSUM - 1 year left - 11.1 PTS, 40% FG, 81% FT
        40. Thomas Diew - forward, Jamestown - 1 year left - 10.5 PTS, 53% FG, 71% FT, 5.1 REB

Group G – Solid Role Players w/ Years Left
These guys have shown enough that I’d want them on my team to fill a role, and if things go right could blossom into something more.
        39. Donez Lindsey - guard, Crookston - 3 years left - 14.3 PTS, 40% FG, 36% 3PT, 3.0 AST

How do you guys successfully track the D2 portal so well??? Also SNU is gonna have to bring in about 5 or 6 guys in the portal atleast so that’s gonna be crazy.

                2. Luke Winkel - guard, St. Cloud - 2 years left - 18.7 PTS, 41% FG, 34% 3PT, 77% FT, 3.6 REB, 4.0 AST, 1.4 STL
                1. Tameron Ferguson - guard, Augustana - 2 years left - 20.0 PTS, 52% FG, 36% 3PT, 69% FT, 5.0 REB, 6.5 AST, 1.5 STL
So all of these guys could contribute to D1 teams and are worthy of money?

I would say that most if not all should stay in D2 and wouldn't be anything outside of 15-20 minute guys at the next level in a program that has money. You will get a couple outliers so this isn't a blanket all these guys are this type from the above but most are.

For those who you listed above the only ones I would think could find some time and success at the next level be within your Groups A-C but even those they have to go to the right spot or they will not have a great experience or year playing in that new program. Most I wouldn't give a dime to because they are all guards and guards are a dime a dozen to find. The money is all ready starting to dry up at some of these lower and mid tier and player retention in these programs are becoming more important because coaches realize rotating out teams every year sucks and they gotta try to keep guys.

So for any of you guys on this list that see this which is maybe 1 or 2, STAY where you are. And those higher on the list and are on good teams, STAY, go win something and have memories. No one will remember you playing for Lipscomb, SFA, UL Monroe, Clevland St or any where else where you will not have a lasting memory and this small amount of "money" you get leaves you with nothing but that.

BUT if you can go get some and feel good about it, go for it, just don't give any to any agent. Do it on your own!!!!

Oh God no, that's not what this is. This is just a fun (debatable) thought exercise of who's got the most value (talent + remaining eligibility) within the NSIC. I would say only guys in Groups A & B could actually consider moving up to get some money + playing time. Group C could maybe get there with one more great year in D2.

Bergan Kinnebrew from Mary has entered the portal. Two time all NSIC selection, POTY for the North Division. I think that Mary only lost one starter and was looking to be in the regional which they just missed this year. She is a consistent scorer and gets to the free throw line a lot.

Made a quick update to the first post for the first time in a few weeks. A lot of additions, and one already has a new home within the conference.
